  1. does the battery get warm when you plug it in?
  2. I actually prefer it when just the link shows as my Kindle Fire won't play the embedded links. Frustrating in link-heavy threads
  3. I believe my tinnitus was caused by a drummer wearing plugs. He just didn't realize (or care) how loud he was playing in a confined space with me near the crash.
  4. Maybe distressed would be more apt? I know the look distresses some folks...
  5. yup, what he said^
  6. I think you'd need to pop the speakers out of the cab and measure them (ohm meter) or at least do the 9volt battery test on them each in turn, disconnected from the rest. You might able to deduce what's going on without taking it all apart though. If you connect a jack cable to the cab and touch a 9v battery between the sleeve and tip, the working speaker(s) should move forward. If you bung up the port, the non-working speaker(s) should move backwards slightly, by a lesser amount as they will be sucked back a bit by the reduced pressure caused by the good one going forwards. Caveat: I've not tried this, but I think it should work! Let us know how you get on. Cheers MBA
  7. I've always been a big fan of the Steinberger tuning system, and this new one on the radius looks really clever. There's a vid on youtube of Ned demonstrating it - very neat and cool.
  8. Chic live DVD. Nice accompaniment to dinner in the background.
  9. I'd advise anyone with one of these to lube them up good and proper even if they're not getting a problem, as it does seem to happen eventually. The helicoils are stainless, so should be a good long term fix. If I still had my Hohners, I'd helicoil them as a preventative, it's about the only slight weakness in an otherwise brilliant design.
  10. I prefer the short version
  11. "Claim"
  12. @Machines - Out of interest, how long did you give it? I found just the same, but sometimes it is good being (well) outside one's playing comfort zone. I tried a couple of time and didn't really stick at it.
  13. Anybody else on here curious as to the mechanism that causes this to happen?
  14. ooh yeah! The punny tribute band names one! I'd be "Dead Grateful" if someone would link that one
  15. It's all gone a bit Einstein a go-go.
  16. You'll find yourself on some kind of register. and not in a good way!!
  17. Yes, the steel of the screws is harder than the alloy of the sliding string puller. The solution I've done on 3 hohner Jack basses now is helicoil the string puller and all is good again. I have done this for nothing for someone on here, but if the thread on the proper Steinberger screws isn't metric (m4 iirc) I don't have the kit for doing it. You could try taking all the screws out and really cleaning them and reassemble with a good grease like copper slip. If you've lost too much material from the puller bit, eventually the thread will slip. Try the grease thing first but if you can verify the threads are metric I can helicoil them for you. Cheers MBA
  18. 25 or 6 to 4 by Chicago. And the bass intro to I'm a Man by the same. Thanks to the Chicago thread!
  19. Lead not looped through the strap? I almost forget why I do it sometimes, then a thread like this reminds me. You just feel that little tug before proper damage gets done.
  20. Also, can you guys use reference material from bands playing your style of music with the guitarists demonstrably NOT using that sort of tone? The old-school prog I listened to doesn't feature guitarists using "metal" guitar sounds.
  21. These are perfect for round the house or acoustic or jazz gigs. The chap I sold mine to takes it round teaching. Glwts!
  22. Was this the same bass?
  23. The trim pots on the East preamp do not take the output down to the same level as passive, for the same setting on the volume control. Even the lowest setting represents a significant boost. This is definitely the case for my u-Retro, can't speak for the newer models.
  24. Sounds like the chap isn't quite ready for playing in a band.
