1. It looks to me like Barts have bar magnets, so string spacing in your case shouldn't be an issue. http://www.bartolini.net/pickups-faq/ section 12 Does it only do this when both pickups are on? The spacing between the two may be scooping those frequencies.
2. Trace used to do just the preamp in a head sized box. My old guitarist bought one thinking it was an amp. Now that would have been ideal for adding a lightweight power amp to for that tone in a lighter package.
3. The difference between hifi and bass amps is, though the output stage may have the same modules, each manufacturer will have their own preamp designs that will have a far greater influence on the tone goals than required for a hifi amp.
4. I'd fit a thermal switch on the heatsink near the output transistors and wire the fan in series with it. This, or fit a quieter fan with the same flow rate. Sit somewhere else or wear a jumper if the breeze upsets you.
5. Glad to be of help. I hope this does turn out to be the issue. I've never really got the need for active basses to have such hot outputs, unless you're trying to drive the front end of an old valve amp into distortion.
6. Is there a trim pot on the inside of the bass that is set very low? Looking at the block diagramme there is an input gain pot. May be worth having a tweak of that. https://www.lakland.com/tech-docs/LH-3%20Wiring%20Diagram%204-07.pdf If possible, I like to set my active level about the same as passive so there isn't a big change in settings if you have to switch over mid-set.
7. I would have thought the EBS Session 60 in the for sale section would fit the bill. Depends on where you are though as it is local delivery only. Edit. Beaten to it by faster fingers!
8. It would be nice to see another UK player in the bass amp game. Their guitar amps are pretty well regarded afaik.
9. I'm sure it was discussed at length earlier, but there's no internal bracing. Was it decided it was not necessary? I did read the whole thread, honest! It was a while ago though....
10. Or more importantly Genz Benz
11. They sound good. The 5 W version was loud enough through a decent cab for band practice in my small room with proper drums.
12. Just never sell it! then you can do what you like with it.
13. Snarky Puppy meets Dirty Loops! Dirty Snarky Poops?
14. Tesco Value Bass?
15. Yes, the Palmer one does too: Passive DI box. Jack input with paralell "THRU" output, transformer balanced XLR output. Attenuable input sensitivity, can handle both line level and speaker level signals. Thanks for the suggestions guys, I'd like to build something in, but this looks like a good starting point.
16. Years ago I used to run an old Roland Cube 60 (the orangey ones) with my Sessionette guitar amp sat on top of it. Turned the bass down a bit on the guitar amp. Quite a clean but aggressive sounding setup and seemed plenty loud. Those Sessionettes are pretty much indestructible.
17. Links open fine. Nice one.
18. It's really handy having 2 of the same model - should be a cinch for your guy to pinpoint the issue.
19. Nice one beer, looks just the ticket! Just got to find that transformer from about 30 years ago now...
20. Hi all Has anyone added a transformer balanced DI to the speaker output of a small valve amp? I imagine some dropper resistors would be in order, or is it more involved than that? Cheers MBA
21. If the nut is cut oddly or worn, the string may not be vibrating from the front of the nut, but further back (in the direction of the tuners) This would have the effect of making the lower frets sharp, becoming less noticeable higher up and, of course bang on at 12th, as that's where you checked the intonation. I wouldn't have thought this effect would be very noticeable though.
22. Yeah, just plug n play with 12AX7/ecc83 types. I did this on my Trace guitar amp on Sunday which cured an odd after-note noise completely.
23. ok, more info needed. Are all the notes in the problem range sharp or flat? Check them with a good tuner.
24. +1 to W.O.T.s rapid wit. Makes the rest of us look like Klotz.
25. Could it be that performance anxiety for the recording is making you unconsciously press harder than usual, pulling the notes sharp?
