1. Lord Sausage and the Boy sounds like a dodgy 70's duo who, had they existed, would have been under investigation by Operation Yewtree by now...
2. That just about sums it up ^^
3. … may wish to avoid The James Street Tavern, James Street, Oxford (near Tescos on the Cowley Rd) this Friday 2nd of December, as my band, Charms Against the Evil Eye, will be playing our “music” there. This is the sort of thing to expect: https://soundcloud.com/the-new-moon We will be playing from about 21.00 and there will be a couple of other bands, and possibly some poetry being performed. Crazy!
4. Is this a strip tease?
5. Neutrik do silent connect plugs too. They are really nicely made. About 8 quid. They also have a cheaper line branded Rean. The switch doesn't look as robust, but time will tell. I've bought a couple, and will see how they go.
6. If you don't give it a really good shot, you'll always be asking yourself "what if...."
7. Voted! Sorry I didn't get an entry in this month, only got as far as a title. Sadly, "TankBird" got no further than that... Maybe it was for the best...
8. You don't have to change the cable, just lop the plug off and fit a Neutrik plug. They are as good as anything else out there, and aren't expensive in the grand scheme of things.
9. I set up one of these for a colleague at work, they really are very nice guitars indeed. GLWTS
10. I always see that clapping as mocking and or ironic.
11. Anyone bought one yet?
12. I wouldn't have thought you need to use a magnet on the pole piece, I think a piece of steel or iron (something magnetisable) would do the same job without risking demagnetising the pickup itself.
13. Looks like something ol' WaynePunkDude used to have! Pretty cool!
14. Shakespeare?
15. Interesting picture. I wonder why the casing is quite so deep.
16. Just posted a pair of pickups to Tom, paid up quickly, nice straightforward deal. Recommended!
17.
I know what you mean. It mostly depends on what work you want to do. If you want to include teaching in your portfolio of skills, then you invariably need a degree. I've been asked for sight of mine just to register with private tutor agencies. Teaching through your local authority music service will certainly require a degree.
I have a friend who teaches guitar at (I think) 2 schools, who can't read music. I was surprised, to say the least. I didn't rate his playing all that highly either...
18.
That link doesn't work now. But the problem is visible on the pics. There definitely have been issues with plug / socket compatability across manufacturers. Sometimes it's been an imperial/metric tolerance issue. You might get somewhere by cutting back the black plastic 'collar' of the socket so the tip reaches the contact ?
As far as I can see from the pictures ^ this looks like a good suggestion.
19. Sounds like a plan! You can get P90s in a humbucker-size casing, which would save one bit of work at least, of how about a Duncan P-rails in the bridge, best of both worlds?
20. I would like to have seen a straight pull micrometer style tuning system.
21. A bit of extra flux usually helps too. It de-oxidises the pot surface and makes the solder flow/wet better, as long as you get sufficient heat into the pot casing.
22. Could it be the old send-return loop disconnect problem. If the loop is never used, sockets can get a bit oxidised and disconnect the return signal from the preamp, so the quiet hiss you hear from the tweeter is just the quiescent noise from the power stage with no input attached.
23. I find the U-retro in my Sei to be very hot. The internal pickup trim pots don't bring the active level down to that of the passive pickups. It's not that the passive sound is weak or low output, it is similar to my other passive basses, it is just that the active is hot, and even with all the tone pots set to detent positions, there is a bit of a baked-in eq curve.
