Hi all This is an idea that struck me after reading our local freely distributed music paper. At the back is a section for demo reviews which are both ruthless and often hilarious in equal measure. Credit is given where the demos are considered up to snuff, but if not, oh dear! Now i know this forum is all about supportive comments and positivity, but often there is a certain truth in the "nastyness" that wouldn't otherwise come out. So, it is posting your demo in this section and giving free rein to fully express a critique thereof. For instance, I played an old recording to someone at work. He said "is that you singing? it sounds like Kermit the frog". He wasn't trying to be supportive, or funny or positive, but he was right, I was trying too hard to make it sound gravelly, and sure enough, it was Kermit-y. I won't be doing that again. If folks know what they're signing up for, there should be no falling out over it. I say "should"..... Might generate a bit more traffic around these parts too. What do we think?

Our band leader can get us on there apparently. What are people's experience of the event, and the Cavern club generally? In my opinion, it's a long way to go (from Oxford) just to play a short set, with probably an overnight stay and unlikely prospect of much remuneration, if any. Caveat: leader is a massive Beatles fan, so playing the Cavern would mean a lot to him. C'mon folks, sell it to me!

Is it out of the question to just ream the hole out a bit?

There is some free stuff in the Montpellier gardens, and lots of food stands etc. but didn't offer any proper ales iirc. I mean, ffs, it's a jazz festival, isn't their target audience real ale drinking beard stroking old blokes?

You could "ask a question" on ebay asking what the D stamp means, or even "why would I buy this from you when Thommann who you get them from sell for less than half this price?" This scheme is probably why folks on here are finding the deko ones are going so fast.

Maybe an Electric Upright Bass would be a way to see if it is for you. I got reasonable sounds out of a second hand Stagg for about what you let yours go for. I couldn't justify keeping it but it went to my mate who has always wanted to try DB. He likes it a lot.

Are you sure it is the mute switch operating, not the amp going into thermal shutdown, especially if you are eq-in more bass in to it? Just a thought...

Anyone tried one of these yet? Always been a sukka for the LP junior double cutaway shape, and been thinking of short scale lately. [/quote] Odd you should say that! My last 2 gigs (gear sharing) were an RM combo and a head, and I found exactly the same issue. It's a bit of a mare on gear you don't know, especially. Bring back the old HH electroluminescent backlighting, I say!
