...Just a bit of fun. Descriptions seen in ads that maybe true but are faintly ridiculous. (I'm not pleading innocence here by the way) I'll start with... 1. Plays like butter (often spelt buttah) 2. Never been gigged (never really seen the point of that one) 3. All original (so what if it's as good a bass you're telling me it is) 4. Bought it new for £1300 a week ago. (Take it back to the shop) 5.?2 points

Another idea would be to set up a custom search of the kind of content that does interest you, then save it as a custom stream and make it your homepage. There are no sidebars on those pages.2 points

@BigRedX I will probably look at creating a lightweight theme in the coming weeks. There seems to be some demand for it, part of the problem is some people want everything on the screen, others want a minimal amount and it's not easy to cater for both2 points

Was Andy Irvine the originator of the reference to butter? I know he always claimed it aplied to every Warwick he picked up. The other one I don't get is "plays itself".2 points

Well done. Feels great to have a like button on a post so people can react without having to post a comment. Good stuff2 points

Having decided that my goal of being in a regular gigging band is no longer going to happen, after over 20 years of trying, I've reconciled myself to just enjoying my bass playing at home. I could write a book on the misadventures of my 'career' as a musician I've sold my gigging cab and amp. I've a couple of pedals on sale here too (cheap plug). I've gathered a huge collection of assorted books over the years as well as leads, straps and other odds and ends. I'm amazed at just how many books I've gathered. I've now got to sort though boxes upon boxes of CDs for them and I'll sort them and put them up for sale with heavy discounts on bulk buying. I've still got 7 basses, I used to have 27!1 point

Man I hate this. They have it on SBL. Hopefully it will be ok here (with the higher average age.) It all gets stupid when quantity of likes gets taken as a member rank. SBL even posts who got most likes in the past month... urghhh. Can we please establish here and now. I'm an unsociable got and I don't like anyone.1 point

I liked one of your posts When you get a positive reaction to a post your reputation goes up, they do have the option of negative reactions but that didn't really seem in the BC spirit!1 point

Learn the basic chord structure of the song first with intro, verse, chorus etc then put in some passing notes and the twiddly bits and you will get the song up and running more quickly than a linear note for note approach. When you get to a live performance the drummer will increase the speed by 20% and all the fancy bits that you practiced will go out the window anyway.1 point

Pleased to be back at last, after trying all the usual stuff and my son trying all he knows, couldn't get at all until about 10 minutes ago. It'll take me a while to find my way around I'm sure Cheerz, John1 point

"Best I've ever played" - so why are you selling it? "I can't believe I'm selling it" - er, so why are you selling it?1 point

Yep, looks the nuts, well done to all involved. I know exactly how bottom clenching a system migration can be!1 point

You might want to try again with the truss rod nut undone (if it has one), use the clamp to get a slight backbow if you can. Then tighten the truss rod nut once you are happy with the relief. Keep an eye on it if you put it in your shed, for a shortish period you should be fine and the damper atmosphere may well help, but don't subject the bass to anything too drastic. Good luck!1 point

Ditto the above. I've finally been able to access it properly and start to nose around. The UI is light years ahead and overall very slick user experience. Investigating new features slowly, but so far everything I've found has been a worthy improvement. Well done chaps, I know these things are stressful and hard work. Nicely done. And this is my first post in the New World ? Cheers Geoff1 point

Yes, I used to do that previously using the desk top version instead of the mobile version. Worked a treat, as it does now.1 point

Looking very nice!!! I’m doing a P bass build at the mo as well but I’m doing mine ‘51 style with split coils in instead of single, I hope mine comes out looking as good as yours!?!1 point

Thanks guys. There’s still some bits to adjust but we’re getting there. The positive vibes help massively and I know I speak for @charic too, who has done all the work (all I do is boss him about) Think is time for bed now. Night all!1 point

You are right to identify the need for a dedicated sound person. That makes one of the advantages of going through the PA less easy to achieve. The advantages of going through the PA are simple enough. Going through the PA means someone out where the audience are can balance the sound for them meaning the whole band sound better. Secondly any sound going on behind the mic line will be picked up by the vocal mics, including your bass. This muddies up the sound going through the PA and means you can never get a clean vocal feed. Then there is the issue of the sound level on stage. High levels damage your hearing long term and make it difficult for us to really hear each other well. Singers are often forced to belt out their vocals straining their voices and making it far harder to sing with any inflection or subtlety just to be heard over the racket. Without any help from the PA you have no choice about volume, it has to be loud enough for the audience. The only advantage of not going through the PA is simplicity. No mics or Di's means less to go wrong and setting up is simple enough for all to understand. Turn up until you are loud enough to match the drums and no-one is louder than each other and then just play. The balance will be the same for every song and whist it might not be perfect it shouldn't be too far out if every band member is sensible. This only works though in small venues if one of the instruments won't reach the back of a big venue you've pretty much got to accept low sound values or all go through the PA.1 point

Wrong URL, should be www.playchecked.com. There's also www.musictag.co.uk although this doesn't seem to be a secure site.1 point
@Happy Jack - not come across a Crazy 8, can you send me a link please?
http://www.barryaudiodesign.com/crazy-8s.html I believe that a number of firms manufacture these, presumably with small variations? Fascinating cabs. They have astonishing presence and reproduction for a very limited area ... they will NOT project to the back of a pub or drown out your drummer, but they make my DB sound exactly like itself only much louder. In a band backline + PA support environment, this is hard to beat.1 point
