How was Your rehearsal last morning or night ?
JapanAxe replied to nilorius's topic in General Discussion
Second full rehearsal with my friend’s glam startup. Nice big room at Pirate in Reading, which we need because he brings an electronic kit. We have some backing tracks and a click, so we did the whole rehearsal on in-ears - guitarist used a Pod Go, I plugged straight into a Hi-Z input on my XR18. We didn’t need any of the kit in the room but it’s proved impossible to hire a village hall in a suitable location! I’d say it went really well, and for once everyone got there in good time and remembered to bring everything they needed! I recorded most of it to Reaper on my laptop with a view to editing out the chat and uploading rough mix on mp3 to Google Drive so that each person can listen critically to their own playing and singing. -
Best ear defenders for live performance?
Stub Mandrel replied to Bass Wielder's topic in General Discussion
I understand, perhaps we should use the full over ear protectors I use when carrying out noisy machining operations at gigs as well? This is all about management of risk, and I'm very aware of the circumstances when I feel protection is useful, and I know how to insert and use standard earplugs correctly and to be aware if they are working or not. I also have developed mild tinnnitis following being hospitalised with vestibular neuritis, so I have an idea of what the consequences are. <edit> I also use a dB app on my phone when attending gigs - I'm not sure of its absolute accuracy compared to my proper dB meter, but I assume it's relative accuracy is pretty good. It's worrying that a few bands playing in a local venue can be 10-12dB louder than Alice Cooper in an arena at less than twice the distance from the PA, and they get upset when asked to turn down. -

Early 70s Japanese hollow body truss rod

Yes, absolutely. As @Hellzero says, small changes in the angle of the neck make a significant change to the action height. The Amazon link that @Hellzero puts on of the full-pocket tapered shims is also spot on. -
For my band(s), see my post above from 26 June. I also play theatres with a tribute band and their regular sound guy uses full-on analog splits.

I think side jacks are neater if you are using a wireless transmitter.

Price drop now £115! Inspired by both new and old, the AfterLife has FOUR different internal analog circuits that provide 2 distortions and 2 fuzzes. Providing plenty of headroom and a ton of gain, these four selections will cover all the distorted ground you’ve got. While the outside boasts a lone Mode selection knob and a Volume control, there’s more under the hood to this one. Internal adjustable trimpots are available for all four modes, with parameters like overall Volume, Bias, Gain and Filter. The enclosure is 100% Solid Aircraft Aluminum Machined. The artwork on the front and back is laser-engraved, and each AfterLife pedal is 100% hand-wired and hand-built. Collect from Chesterfield or add £5 for UK postage. Cheers! Sam

Here’s my (quite rare nowadays, I think) Orange “Smartpower” SP212 isobaric, ported bass cab. 8 Ohms, 600W 2x12 speakers, mounted one behind the other to create a powerful cab capable of filling most rooms! 1/4” & speakon connectors. It comes with the pictured flightcase, which although bulky makes transporting very easy. Weight (according to Orange) 17.3 kg (without flightcase). In good condition with no issues; sounds great. Only selling as I’m back to my TC Electronic cabs & don’t use this at all. Pick up from Bath (you're welcome to come & try it), or I'm often up in Hertfordshire & am willing to deliver anywhere between the two, and as I like driving I'll deliver within 100 miles of Bath for free. I’m in RAF Wittering near Peterborough on Wednesday 30th July and in Thetford this Friday 1st August if that’s good for anyone. This isn’t really postable due to the size & weight. I can take more pics & answer any questions you might have.

Good ish… I was quoted 18-24 months for mine. Which is why I just went back to Wunjos and got the one they had hanging on the wall and which I’d played and loved!!! Not an SL, of course, though.

$185 Canadian? That's only about £100 + shipping and incoming Vat. Seems a bargain! Love the idea of mixing in the cab too. -

I wish you the very best with that and sincerely hope it works for you. None of my responses are aimed at you, Mr Mandrel. I am hoping that casual readers would get a handle on the dangers and the clear strategies for negating that danger. From my own personal experience, I would not be taking the risk for the cost of 3 sets of strings (or less if you use TI Jazz Flats!). I am not telling anyone what to do with their lives. However the reality is that when it goes wrong suddenly all sorts of musical endeavours we take for granted, both listening and playing, are no longer possible. Hearing damage is progressive. Ironically mine tipped over into permanent tinnitus during a rehearsal with a harp. I can no longer play that subtle stuff that requires me to respond to subtle playing changes because I cannot risk further damage by playing unprotected. This is all totally avoidable.

This amp reminds me so much of the Ampeg Combo my uncle loaned me when I first moved from Guitar to Bass in the early sixties. He played an upright Bass into his Ampeg Combo, in a local Rock n Roll band. Thinking back, the amp portion came out at the back on some hinge unit, then you clipped it onto the top. Have not seen any pictures of that type of Ampeg Combo yet, also he must have been earning some money to afford one! I can still see him in my mind, getting onto a double decker bus, sliding his upright Bass under the stairs in its brown canvas cover, then rolling the Combo in and packing something around it to stop it rolling out! He progressed from using local bus services, to building a two wheeled trolly to pull along behind his push bike. THEM WERE THE DAYS! Anyhow, on closer looking at this Combo, from the serial number, it was made in China for the UK market 2009, (21)DYUUVA0006. Reading on the web, one of the issues this model made in China has had, is the With Horn / Without Horn sockets at the back. Apparently, there was some confusion regarding the earth on the Without Horn socket between Loud Technology and China when they first started manufacturing, which led to a lot of the Amps being fried, if you unplugged the cable from With Horn to Without Horn. This combo has it plugged in the With Horn and that’s where it is staying. The chassis is loose from the cabinet on the RH side, which I will take a look at when I get time Apart from the chassis being loose and finding a way to verify the horn (without frying the output) this amp is a keeper. Sorry about the long read, but these things keep coming back to you when you get to my age. Got to go now, can hear the misses waking up. Pete
