I'd like to see Joe Dart Sterling basses available to the UK without the absurdly high shipping fee.

Me too - but with it being EBMM/SBMM you know they'd just massively increase the price instead.

The shipping fee for a one off was fine - but when it was obvious that there would be loads in a container at the same time that was taking the piss a bit.

A special edition of the JMJ Mustang bass in a custom colour nitro with the production line's 'road-worn' operation bypassed.

Just seen the Andertons exclusive player II series jazz bass, jazzmaster, strat, & tele in lavender haze. This colour in nitro on a JMJ with no relicing shenanigans would look good.

or perhaps a metallic version of lavender haze

Wow! If I dismantle one of my daphne blue JMJs, where can I send the body to get this finish done in nitro, and what would the cost be?

edit: matching headstock!

I reckon everyone should chill out and stop making new stuff for a bit

But then we’d only have old vintage instruments to lust after.

Yep, fair point 🤣

I agree @ped, it’s become an arms race, especially in terms of amplification

Interestingly I was browsing in Anderton's just today and tried a few basses. Long story short I couldn't wait to get back home to play the gear I already own. Basically I agree with you 👍

Id like to see a back metal band with guitars in that cheerful shade.

They did a limited run like that once. Might have even been neck through.

It didn't sell enough to keep going with it.

Do you have any specifics by any chance? Tried Google but nothing so far...

I’m sure there’s a market for a bass ‘arpeggiator’. I just play the root note and it kindly fills in with a suitable walking pattern or fill. Not that I’m lazy or anything…

You would want it to give it the note to aim at for the next bar so not actually play any of your notes as you would be playing a bar ahead of the tune. Not so lazy if you can pull that off.

a precision with with an ibby soundgear neck profile

I'd get one of those.

Although to be fair, my main bass is a Maruszczyk which has a P and J pickup and an ibby soundgear profile neck

An unlined fretless jazz, ideally with a maple board, would be nice though.

Indeed. It's like we get it, Jaco did you a solid and gave you the template for a fretless Jazz, but that doesn't mean that every fretless Jazz has to replicate that in some form! I mean, they even managed an unlined fretless Precision in the Tony Franklin signature (which for obvious reasons will always be named the Imprecision in my head).

They did an unlined fretless P a long time ago - I had one (ash or maple body, rosewood fingerboard) in the early 80s which would probably have been a 70s build. Bloody heavy too.

Possibly a niche concern, but I'd love to see double bass string makers looking at the field of lively, sustaining metal core strings. Thomastik Spirocores have been around over 50 years and are still the state of the art in that area, and almost every new string on the market in the last 20 years is aiming for a darker, more damped gut-like sound to varying extents.

The problem with the Bass Dept. at Andertons (and many other stores) is that they often have nobody to set up the basses, so you end up playing on grotty strings that have been played by all sorts of little Herberts who never wash their hands before playing, and actions created by speedy mass production which leave the strings three nautical miles off the fingerboard. If I go to Andertons, I usually stick some Alun Keys in my back pocket and do a mini setup on the bass I'm trying. That way I can at least feel if it's something like what I'm looking for. Obviously a bass is never going to sound how you want/expect until you get your favourite strings on it and get it set up to your own preferences, but I'm sure they don't mind carefully done small adjustments that make the bass more playable and therefore more saleable even if you don't end up buying it.

As for what I'd like to see, I guess I'd like to see more aftermarket Graphite necks on the market, but hopefully Kiwi has that corner of the market covered now with Aurok Composites. :)

This is light hearted, and as we're all just playing it doesn't take into account foreign regimes, imperialist land grabbing etc. A bigger obstacle is how skint I am regarding buying new musical gear.

As my tastes are firmly stuck in the past: Fender doing a new range of USA made p bass/ j basses with the Fullerton shaped headstock. They would come in a few different custom colours ( they'd need to dust off an old '70s catalogue and look at the back page) per calendar year; I.e LPB alongside say black, white , sunburst and maybe an international series colour like cherry burst or orange for example.

The non black / white / burst colours change every year.

For about £1500, just a dead basic '70s copy, like a well made s/h one.
