“I loved you then as I love you still

though I put you on a pedestal they put you on the pill”

i saw 2 shooting stars last night , I wished on them , but they were only satellites

it’s wrong to wish on space hardware.  I wish , I wish you’ld care

i don’t want to change the world

I’m not looking for a new England

just looking for another girl

I personally think the greatest lyric ever penned came from Dave Vanain of The Damned when he wrote the superb -

"Then, suddenly,

Like a fly in a cup of tea,

I'm stirred and no longer free,

To fly awa-hay-hay-hay"

Most beautiful love song lyrics ever, in my view. Nick Cave 'Into my arms'

I don't believe in an interventionist God
But I know, darling, that you do
But if I did I would kneel down and ask Him
Not to intervene when it came to you
Not to touch a hair on your head
To leave you as you are
And if He felt He had to direct you
Then direct you into my arms
Into my arms, O Lord, into my arms
Into my arms, O Lord, into my arms
Into my arms, O Lord, into my arms
Into my arms, O Lord, into my arms
Into my arms, O Lord, into my arms
Into my arms, O Lord, into my arms
And I don't believe in the existence of angels
But looking at you I wonder if that's true
But if I did I would summon them together
And ask them to watch over you
To each burn a candle for you
To make bright and clear your path
And to walk, like Christ, in grace and love
And guide you into my arms
Into my arms, O Lord, into my arms
Into my arms, O Lord, into my arms
But I believe in Love
And I know that you do too
And I believe in some kind of path
That we can walk down, me and you
So keep your candles burning
And make her journey bright and pure
That she will keep returning
Always and evermore
Into my arms, O Lord, into my arms
Into my arms, O Lord, into my arms
Into my arms, O Lord, into my arms

Penny Lane - The Beatles

John, making no attempt to hide his Scouse accent. :)

It’s paul who (wrote) sings Penny Lane.... 🙄👍🏻

John does however sing:

Turn off your mind relax and float down stream
It is not dying, it is not dying
Lay down all thoughts, surrender to the void
It is shining, it is shining
Yet you may see the meaning of within
It is being, it is being
Love is all and love is everyone
It is knowing, it is knowing
And ignorance and hate mourn the dead
It is believing, it is believing
But listen to the colour of your dreams
It is not leaving, it is not leaving
So play the game "Existence" to the end
Of the beginning, of the beginning

tomorrow never knows - The Beatles

you do nothing but socialise
and become a menace
put on your reebok man
and go play f**king tennis

Oh my fathers, fathers, fathers, father
By nature he was bendy
We are the chi chine tribe
and we are over friendly

I found this in the rehearsal room yesterday... I think the paper recycling bin puked it out as it has a cheese intolerance.

Hotel hobbies padding dawn's hollow corridors,
Bell-boys checking out the hookers in the bar
Slug-like fingers trace the star-spangled clouds of cocaine on the mirror,
The short straw took its bow.

The tell-tale tocking of the last cigarette,
Marking time in the packet as the whisky sweat
Lies like discarded armour on an unmade bed,
And a familiar craving is crawling in his head

And the only sign of life is the ticking of the pen,
Introducing characters to memories like old friends
Frantic as a cardiograph scratching out the lines,
A fever of confession, a catalogue of crime
In happy hour
Do you cry in happy hour?
Do you hide in happy hour?
The pilgrimage to happy hour

New shadows tugging at the corner of his eye, jostling for attention
As the sunlight flares through a curtains tear,
Shuffling its beams as if in nervous anticipation
Of another day

'Hotel Hobbies', Marillion
from the Clutching At Straws album, IMO their finest hour

With a geranium behind each ear and his face painted with gay cabalistic symbols, 6-foot-8, 17-stone Police Sergeant Geoff Bull looked jolly convincing as he sweated and grunted through a vigorous twist routine at the Frug-A-Go-Go Bierkeller. His hot serge trousers flapped wildly over his enormous plastic sandals as he jumped and jumped and gyrated towards a long-haired man. "Er, excuse me, man, I have reason to believe you can turn me on", he leered suggestively. As if by magic dozens of truncheons appeared and mercilessly thrashed him. Poor Geoff, what a turn-up for the books

I don't recognise that particular lyric,  but that has surely got to be Half Man Half Biscuit!

She came slidin' down the alleyway like butter drippin' off a hot biscuit
The aroma, the mean scent, was enough to arouse suspicion in even the
Oldest of tigers that hung around the hot spot in those days
The sight was beyond belief
Many a head snapped for double--even triple--takes as this vivacious
Feline made her her way into the delta of the alleyway where the most
Virile of the young tabbies were known to hang out
They hung in droves
Such a multitude of masculinity could only be found in one place
And that was O'Malley's Alley

The air was thick with cat calls (no pun intended)
But not even a muscle in her neck did twitch as she sauntered up into
The heart of the alleyway
She knew what she wanted
She was lookin' for that stud bull
She was looking for that he cat
And that was me
Tommy the Cat is my name and I say unto thee

Say, baby, do you want to lay down with me?
Say, baby, do you want to lay down by my side?
Ah baby, do you want to lay down with me?
Say, baby?
Say, baby?

Encumbered forever by desire and ambition, there's a hunger still unsatisfied

(Pink Floyd, "High Hopes")

This is in my funeral instructions as my epitaph.

He looked into my eyes just as an airplane roared above

Said something about football

But he never mentioned love.

or

There's a guy works down the chip shop swears he's Elvis

Just like you swore to me that you'd be true

There's a guy works down the chip shop swears he's Elvis

But he's a liar and I'm not sure about you.

A few of Elvis Costello's jump out.

Long shot of that jumping sign
Visible shivers running down my spine
Cut to the baby taking off her clothes
Close-up of the sign that says,"We never close"
You snatch a tune, you a match a cigarette
She pulls the eyes out with a face like a magnet
I don't know how much more of this I can take
She's filing her nails while they're dragging the lake - from "Watching the Detectives.

She gave a little flirt, gave herself a little cuddle
But there's no place here for the mini-skirt waddle
Capital punishment, she's last year's model
They call her Natasha when she looks like Elsie
I don't want to go to Chelsea - from "(I Don't Want to go to) Chelsea.

Four and twenty crowbars, jemmy your desire
Out of the frying pan into the fire
The king is in the counting house
Some folk have all the luck
And all we get are pictures of Lord and Lady Muck
They come from lovely people with a hard line in hypocrisy
There are ashtrays of emotion for the fag-ends of the aristocracy

The sugar coated pill is getting bitterer still
You think your country needs you but you know it never will
So pack up your troubles in a stolen handbag
Don't dilly dally boys rally round the flag
Give us your daily bread in individual slices
And something in the daily rag to cancel any crisis - from "Pills and Soap.

There are loads more but that'll do for one post!

Speaking of detectives; (from the mad mind of Alex Harvey)

I got the call on a rainy Monday

Business was uneasy

So I turned up the collar of my coat and

Considered the situation.

Now was her Daddy bad?

Or was it good for my Baby?

But there's one thing bothering me.....Who was the man in the jar?
