Have a great Burns night

We always celebrate with a real Haggis and all the trimmings supper, with the poem spoken, (in best Scottish accent), by your's truly of course:

Address to a Haggis

Fair fa' your honest, sonsie face,
Great chieftain o the puddin'-race!
Aboon them a' ye tak your place, Painch, tripe, or thairm:
Weel are ye worthy o' a grace As lang's my arm.

The groaning trencher there ye fill,
Your hurdies like a distant hill,
Your pin wad help to mend a mill In time o need,
While thro your pores the dews distil Like amber bead.

His knife see rustic Labour dight,

An cut you up wi ready slight,
Trenching your gushing entrails bright, Like onie ditch;
And then, O what a glorious sight, Warm-reekin, rich!

Then, horn for horn, they stretch an strive:
Deil tak the hindmost, on they drive,
Till a' their weel-swall'd kytes belyve Are bent like drums;
The auld Guidman, maist like to rive, 'Bethankit' hums.

Is there that owre his French ragout,
Or olio that wad staw a sow,
Or fricassee wad mak her spew Wi perfect scunner,
Looks down wi sneering, scornfu view On sic a dinner?

Poor devil! see him owre his trash,
As feckless as a wither'd rash,
His spindle shank a guid whip-lash, His nieve a nit;
Thro bloody flood or field to dash, O how unfit!

But mark the Rustic, haggis-fed,
The trembling earth resounds his tread,
Clap in his walie nieve a blade, He'll make it whissle;
An legs an arms, an heads will sned, Like taps o thrissle.

Ye Pow'rs, wha mak mankind your care,
And dish them out their bill o fare,
Auld Scotland wants nae skinking ware That jaups in luggies:
But, if ye wish her gratefu prayer,

Gie her a Haggis.

Aye, looking forward to it. Haggis, neeps, tatties and a few drams. On a lighter note we will be having Veggie haggis as I dont eat meat. The Mrs, who loves meat, prefers the taste of the Veggie option. Who would have thought? Still made by Macsween though.

er...  gentle cough... It's not Burn's Night it's Burns Night.  His name was Robert Burns.  It is nice that he gets a mention on BC though.

Sorry Scots BCers :(

No au fait with the local customs.

Have a fab one anyway. :)

We had one yesterday (not possible tonight) - really like the taste of the veggie one.  Not keen on the idea of that the real one contains, tbh!

I saw in the news earlier that as it's so close to Chinese New Year that they're going to be merged into a single event, Chinese Burns night.

Oh God!

Whisky & fireworks - not a good combination! 🍷 🐉  🎇 🤣 🚑 🏥

(or an amazing one, depending on your idea of entertainment! ;) )

I've just popped 2 Macsween original recipe haggises in the oven. Only 75 minutes to wait! It's not as nice microwaved. I'm not even a bit Scottish afaik

Of course the address here in Leicester is "Ay oop 'aggis, me duck"

Aye,

A good Burns to you all.

Tomorrow night from me, I am addressing the Haggis and will Be reciting that poem, and then doing the music for the gathering in our village hall.

before that we have a piper for stripping the willow.

not sure if people really know what they have got themselves in for with me performing!
