  1. Mix the decade with one of Doc Brown's line from one of the BTTF films... "Nope, already been there” And get something like... The 80s: Already Been There
  2. Definitely this. And during discussion tell them you're a musician and want to keep playing. Good Rheumatology teams want patients to maintain their quality of life. Ask about steroid injections in your wrist too.
  3. Does the chanter learn the words or continue to read from a tablet or sheet? If they read them tell them to learn the lyrics by heart and you'll all arrive at what's realistically achievable.
  4. My wedding ring is 20mm deep. I never take it off and it doesn't get in the way.
  5. I watched BBC Scotland's Hogmanay show then turned over to Jools when it had already started. I enjoyed Sugababes and thee young girl who sang Candyman.
  6. What will you be doing during her bass songs? If you'll be singing lead vocal or playing another instrument it can add a different dynamic for a couple of songs. If she doesn't need or want you to do anything but leave the stage kill the idea stone dead now.
  7. A freezing cold Thursday at the Falkirk Blues Club. A brilliantly run club well attended by Blues fans. Venue is the Wine Library on the last Thursday of each month. All seated audience in a small capacity room so 50 people makes it a sell out.
  8. If you do play for a percentage of the bar takings be very clear what you've agreed to. One of my bands played for £100 plus 10% of bar sales. The place was rammed. At pay up time the owner only paid us an additional £20 saying that the other hundred odd people were part of two big retirement party groups and their spend didn't count. An absolute shyster. Lesson learnt.
  9. As long as your eyes react well to contact lenses you'll be fine. Mine didn't and I ditched them years ago. Now I don't wear spex when gigging. Fortunately I'm short sighted and can see my fretboard, amp and band mates. Punters can be blurry though.
  10. Oh I love spending Scottish notes in England. I only had trouble once when the shop assistant was a teenager.
  11. Booked to play outdoors on the Prom at Girvan Beach but Ayrshire's beautiful bank holiday weather meant a late change to indoors. A local youth facility premises with a cosy yet lively atmosphere. Max capacity is 100 souls and it was full. Band mascot Roger approved.
  12. What was it that made you decide against these applicants? Were any of them close? In which case perhaps invite them back and really work with them. On the plus side you have four months to get the best of them up to speed.
  13. Digging in! On The Ferry in Glasgow on Saturday. I played the green Ibanez shorty with the opening band then the red Precision with the main turn. I was knackered the following day.
  14. Digging in at The Ferry in Glasgow. Green Ibby with the support band then the red P Bass with the main turn. I was tired the following day.
  15. "Gonny play something you're good at!" Priceless.
  16. Learn the bass part separately. Learn to sing the vocal separately. Fit both parts together and practice practice practice.
  17. We suffered for a whole year with a singer/harmonica player who despite using a tablet for lyrics and arrangement couldn't or wouldn't follow what was written in front of him. I sang a lot of definite harmonies but stopped when I'd had enough of looking like I was getting it wrong. Sucked all the fun out of a good band. He's now ex of this parish and the new man sings the right words in the right places and we're all smiling again. We still make a mistake occasionally but nothing too noticeable.
  18. The red one and the wee green one.
  19. Jimmy Lea Larry Taylor Jack Bruce Marshall Grant Everyone else is great but these guys are my go tos for inspiration.
  20. I agree with everything you say here. Plus the toilets are clean. Price increased to £39 from early April.
  21. I'd rather not say. The pay was good but I'm just looking forward to Friday and Saturday which are bound to be better. Onwards and upwards.
  22. I have a red nylon one on my Precision and a black leather one on my Ibanez shorty.
  23. I went to see The Rezillos in Glasgow on Saturday and stayed to watch headliners The Undertones. Both bands were excellent.
  24. I had the Pirate experience last week for the first time. The bass amp sounded like a jam jar full of wasps. I set it flat and applied small tweaks to EQ over a few songs before finally settling for... a jam jar full of wasps. It was horrible. I think you have 20 minutes from the booking start time to contact the mother ship to register a complaint so I'll try that tomorrow. Fortunately we'll be back in our regular studio from next week.
