MattM
Seymour Duncan Quarter Pounder in your current P.
+1. Round wounds, pick. Sorted, Alternatively a 2EQ Ray with both tones maxed if you're more a scoopy/slappy kinda guy.
Pinball
I've been wondering about that too. Specifically the 5string HH version.
Stingray gets my vote...no need for two pups in my opinion as it hits most spots with just one. A great system, flats and use a pic or fingers and you have it all there. It also works consistantly with pedals
Doctor J
Forget these limp-wristed lightweights, if you really want the sound of an angry bear at your command it's got to be a L2000. If that's too much, get some P shaped G&L MFD pickups, they're beastly.
Subbeh
Why not look at the amp too? Tubes, tubes, tubes....
I think that's probably the way to go or maybe a good dirty tube style OD?
mcnach
G&L L2000!!! or maybe a Warwick Corvette $$. Or a MM Sterling or Stingray even!
alyctes
If you can find an aluminium-necked Kramer with a humbucker, that might do. Mine sounds almost like a guitar run through an octaver.
Lozz196
Yeah, I use a bass attack too. Great pedal. I guess I was wondering if there was anything else that has the kind of grumpy sound you get from a P or a Thunderbird, but maybe turned up to 11. So not a soft P sound but a "I just punched you in the guts and made your balls cry blood" P sound.
Late 70s ash-bodied/maple-necked Precision then. Or put a DiMarzio Model P pickup in a regular Precision.
chickenjames
stingray with flats. play really hard.
Cosmo Valdemar
A bit more obscure, but old-school Thunderbird pickups or modern versions like Thunderbuckers really are amazingly aggressive, growly things. They are naturally quite dark so I always have to push the top end a bit, but they go wonderfully with a bit of valve or valve effect drive. Pinball
Maybe add a BB, Harke Bass Attack or VT pedal for aggressive OD
dincz
Another vote for a Stingray. Even a copy sounds slightly annoyed.

40hz
Owned a Stingray, my current Spector kicks it in the balls in the aggression stakes.
Paulhauser
I'm quite surprised that Spector came up as late as the #38 post. I've used Stingrays, but my Spector Euros have more variety to the sound, can be a lot more gritty and angry but can be tamed, too. For the record I like the Stingray's sound, too but found out that Spectors deliver what SR's do AND a lot more (for me)
Joebethell
Mike lull PT pbass with tbird pickups sounds like the bass you are after.
synthaside
To be honest i can get that angry sound out of a few of my bass's my Epid Tbird with different amounts of tone depending on the song and the bass slightly dropped on my Eq and the mids raised a bit more than i use for smoother stuff, getting the grow from it is as much about right hand position .. i play between my pickups but slightly closer to the bridge the more bright it want it to be and run through the Tube screamer patch from my zoom B3 ... Instant Angry and very usable sound used for Ace of spades ,(even more mids and more gain) / Chelsea dagger ( with the tone pot on 10 and mid's dialed back a little bit) For rock you cant beat a cheap n cheerful T-bird.... Second hand they go for around £150 in top nick and less for that the more beat they are , ( especially the older korean made ones like this which tbh are a lot better than the later stuff (MIC) http://www.ebay.co.u...ZkAAOSwLN5Wkooh that's from the unsung factory looking at the neck plate .. one considered to be one of the better at quality. They make you feel like a loony with that giant plank strapped to you ... and part of what channels that aggression ... is the angry 13 year old inside escaping into the practice room ... theres an easy fix for the neck dive on these as well due to the bolt on construction. noirpunk
I use an Italia Maranello to great effect, it's a really punch nasty aggressive sound. Very thumpy and growly pickups
Cameronj279
For an angry sound a Warwick Thumb would be my choice.
LewisK1975
I can vouch for the Yamaha Attitude's punch and growl - as previously said it's like a P-Bass on Steroids, which is kind of what you sound like you're after. You can get the pickups that they have separately too. Maybe something to think about. Muzz
To start cheaply, I'd put a hotter pickup (like the aforementioned DiMarzio Model P) in your P-bass, and give the mids in your sound some attention: they can get overlooked, and are where a lot of the anger lives...after all, Lemmy's sound was pretty much ALL mids, and it doesn't get a lot angrier than that. My Shuker's a flexible animal with two EMG 40P pickups in it, but if I crank the mids on the U-Retro, it gets very very cross indeed...
