Depending on how you measured it, 34.5" sounds like it may be a bit out on intonation.
If there isn't enough adjustment on the bridge to bring the scale back to 34", then your 12th fret will be out by 1/4" and intonation will be obviously wrong.
 2. 60's Vox Cougar bought s/h in 1970. Still got it though it's under a friend's bed on the other side of the world.
 3. If a particular bridge reduces sustain, it's either bendy or it's not fixed solidly to the body (the high mass bit).

 5.
Radio Four is enough for me and it should be enough for anyone.
Radio 4 was the main reason I bought an internet radio some 7 years ago. On-demand and fast-forward/rewind within programmes was a great convenience. Unfortunately things have changed at the BBC's end and I have to keep a tablet by my bed to get the same functionality. For live streaming only, I don't think internet radios offer any advantage. Mine uses the Reciva portal. Things may be different on other systems.
 6.
I wouldn't really recommend this as the pencil graphite is conductive too. This could lead to an unpredictable resistance profile on the pot rotation.
I wondered about this too but in practice it doesn't seem to make any difference. The minute amount of graphite dust left on the surface of the track is not enough to appreciably (or measurably) change the pot's resistance. It does work.
 7.
I unpicked the tabs that hold the pot together, cleaned the carbon track with an eraser and reassembled the pot.
A variation that dates back to steam radio days. You can coax extra life out of an old pot by using the tip of a pencil to clean the track. The graphite is hard enough to dislodge any crusty stuff and slippery enough so as not to gouge the surface of the track. It also leaves a fine coating of graphite as dry lubrication. If you're patient and careful, it beats spraying.
 8.
5/6 string basses may also be more "suggestive' towards floating thumb, as opposed to fixed thumb, right hand techniques (again, muting, and getting consistency of tone) - assuming it's fingerstyle of course!
Muting was my problem with 5 strings. I found floating thumb pretty much essential.
 9. The graph takes a terrifying dive after 51-60. Should I start harp lessons now?
 10.
I could aim for directly between the poles on the pickup.. But they are not exposed.
You can locate the pole pieces pretty accurately with the tip of a small screwdriver. You'll be able to feel the magnetic pull from each pole piece.
 11. Looks like there's an op-amp on the output board so I'd suspect it's a buffer stage intended to drive low impedances. It could be faulty or badly designed.
 12. Effects returns are generally lower impedance than instrument inputs. Not a problem for most preamps but maybe yours has a fairly high impedance output.
 13.
46 I can't imagine how this has happened
Neither could I at the time - though it did happen almost 19 years ago and I'm getting used to it.
 14. My last cab could reproduce 10Hz ..... err, couldn't.
 15.
Almost all of my Single Cut basses have been bolt-on basses, the most recent ones have the same neck joint as a non Single Cut would have, still not dead spots or stability issues, they just look sexier
Now that throws a different light on it. I've never played a SC or even looked at one close up. If the top extension on the body is not reinforcing the neck, then I wonder what the point is - but that's because I don't like the look of them.
 16.
So are all the top players not using single cuts playing basses with dead spots?
I doubt it but my guess is that a good many of them are using basses with multi-piece laminated necks, graphite reinforcing rods, or made entirely from something other than wood. Or their headstocks are weighted to tune out the dead spots. The neck is the weakest link in the structure and most prone to resonances that cause dead spots. There are solutions other than a single-cut design.
 17.
Does anyone else remember pre single cut when neck stability and sustain was an absolute nightmare?
No, but I do remember countless complaints about dead spots. I don't like the look of single-cuts either but I think the design makes sense.

 19.
This leads to the the signal cables being very skinny and easily damaged unless you are always extra careful about coiling the cable up when putting it away.
Yes, they can be a bit delicate but this is for fixed wiring in a bass so it shouldn't matter in this case.
 20. A bit of a long shot, but as my command of written Czech is limited, I thought I'd ask here first before trying a local forum. Does anyone out there in UK, Czech Republic or anywhere else know anything about these? The first link below is via Google translate rather than direct but should be mostly intelligible. 21.
dincz - Again, a good point - I shall keep an eye out on the fleabay. I see there's an LA Audio MPX1 on eBay UK at the moment going for £95 - would you recommend it?
Very nice EQ section - two parametric mids plus high and low shelving - and a decent compressor. The price is a bit high. They usually go for around the £50 mark.
