What the title says. What does one of these things entail? The only image my mind conjures up is a load of guys sat in a circle with their gear playing at each other which, to be honest, sounds a bit sh*te.

Probably best you don't go to one, then.

A meeting up where people bring their gear along, chat face to face with the people they`ve been speaking to online, get a chance to try out other bits of gear that they may be interested in buying, or just interested in seeing what it sounds like. Plus if the bash has enlisted some other form of entertainment/guest speakers/features, then a chance to learn some stuff or particpate.

I've only been to two, but yes people do set their kit up round the room, and everyone wanders round, looking at other people's kit and going 'ooh', 'aah' and such like. Occasionally someone will demonstrate a fuzz box , causing everyone else to fall to the floor clutching their bleeding ears. Outbursts of frenzied slapping may also occur.

Other things that happen:
- raffles
- coffee-drinking and pastry-eating
- mini-talks from pro players
To save you doing a search in the Events Lounge ( ;) ) I can confirm that the ones held in Dorset are as you surmise except being Dorset, we always sacrifice a sheep (or a baby goat if a sheep is not available). We then rub the blood over our naked....hands whilst burning a Rick******* in the middle of the circle chanting "Fender, Fender, Fender". We then move on to the "Guess the second-hand string maker competition" where contestants produce an old string and those assembled (in a circle) try to guess the makers name and for an extra point, the gauge. Following on from that is the "Guess the weight of the Cab Competition" where ( again in a circle) we blindfolded try and guess the weight of different cabs to the nearest oz. In fact the last member to do this is still locked in the Skittle Alley at the Broadchurch Arms as we all got bored and buggered off leaving him blindfolded in the room. He is in fact one of the "missing members" oft referred to on this site!
Have I sold it to you yet?

That game never gets old. One time at the North Oxfordshire bash we tried sitting in a square formation but it just wasn't the same. :(

We did that at the SE bash, too!! I won. I bashed my shins when I lifted it up, then the handle fell off - I correctly guessed it to be a TKS of course.

I hate it ( when I in all seriousness) I make a valid point and people just take the piss...... Also I bet none of you have been to Bass Bash when the winner of one of the Competitions was the one who bashed his shins........
Oh, and we had girls at one of our Bashes ( and they weren't wives/girlfriends) but real Bassists! Did I mention we once sat in rows too...?
Oh yes, it did sound sh*te.

We had girls at the NOBB. Well, prostitutes, as it happens. We paid them to stand around and say things like 'So, speaker excursion? That's really interesting'.

I guess as the OP is from Wilts he may be more interested in a Wilshire Bash than a Dorset one ?

Did I mention we have a biggest Dorset Knob Prize as well?

Why should we enlighten you when you've already decided they're "a bit sh*te"? Nice attitude you've got there.

Only been to one but it involved a pub and curry the night before, going to a bit hall with loads of fellow bass players (and basschatters), meet people, talk all things bass, try out a few basses I otherwise wouldn't have been able to and then watch a masterclass by a very talented bass player.

You're right. They're pretty awful really.

In all seriousness I enjoyed it but if it isn't your thing then so be it.

The ones I've looked into going to sadly seem to have overlooked these important elements in favour of tea and cakes...

Hoping to get along to the next hearts bash. Would love one somewhere accessable in Central London, but I'm too lazy to organise it...

So, basically, it's group socialising... which is HORRIBLE anyway and to be avoided at all costs. ;)

Seriously though, if people enjoy it then good for them... I was mainly curious as kept seeing posts advertising them but the Events forum doesn't have any information either as a sticky or in the OPs of the threads. It's just sort of assumed people would know what to expect.
