Precision bass with a (near) jazz bass profile is my PERFECT bass. I'm very, very close to slapping some flats on, selling my jazzes and ending the GAS hunt! kendall Posted February 6, 2014 Share Posted February 6, 2014 My favourite bass is my old Aria, new pups and some TLC over the last year or so and she sounds immense. I have always loved the slim neck and now that its got 27 years of wear on it, it feels super slick. I have a Fender 5 string Jazz that I enjoy playing and experimenting with, but for sheer joy, sounds and playability the old Aria is hard to beat. [/quote] I know what you mean mate, I used to have an old Aria Pro II SB R-60 and it was great. But some nonce swapped out the pickup for a fake gibbo style thing that sounded terrible. Lw. Posted February 6, 2014 Share Posted February 6, 2014 My favourite/best bass sound is that of the Warwick, their tone is just the best for me. I wish my Corvette was a 4-string as I don't think I'd ever need another bass, though as it isn't I have massive lustings for a Fender Jazz! Never played a 5k+ bass so don't know if they'd be way better but I struggle to think best would apply; IMO musicians need something usable not financially crippling. Highfox Posted February 6, 2014 Share Posted February 6, 2014 I don't know, it seems to be one, then I'll pick up another and .. like what happened to me last week, was doing some recording and thought the Jazz with rounds might suit that (I hadn't used it for nearly 6 months) Been flats on the P for a while, then bingo what a sound and feel it gave me the confidence to add a bit more to the tune. That's the one I would pick if I had to pick if I had to choose one single bass to play for the rest of my playing life. There isn't a single style of music I can play that wouldn't be well served by this instrument. It growls as well as a warwick, thumps and pounds like a classic P, super strong presence in mixes, responds to different fingerstyle and plectrum dynamics, and a lovely neck. As soon as I played it I knew I had to have it, pxed my Fender P (which was, in comparison, like a Woollies Special beside the Thumb, although it was the second-best P I've ever played) and my Hohner B2 and took out a loan for the rest. I'd paid £150 or so for the P (second-hand and tatty), I paid £900 for the Thumb. So I'm not parting with it, even though I play 5-string these days. jazzmanb Posted May 8, 2022 Share Posted May 8, 2022 Really enjoyed my recent gig stint and used it to chop and change just for the fun of it The band plays classic rock and I keep things simple ,into a radial bassbone then desk / rig Very occasional octaver A basic non tech view of what I've observed Main bass will always be Sadowsky uv70 metro . Jazz on steroids ,never active Killer tone across the neck ,heavy though Spector Euro4lx, big fat bottom end ,plenty cut from the active top end but never like Jazzes for that Duff sound Rick 4003s, never had that Ricky sound but being a 3 piece I don't want it too thin , good all round ,had canny few elec issues for its age and use . looks a million dollars ,chunky neck and can never find my right spot for my playing hand ,I play 90% fingers . Fender mongrol, mex body ,all parts neck . Great fast jazz , tone button gives the best yes ,no I've had on a jazz . No idea what pick ups it has ,cts pots though Fender Cij geddy , heavy ,cool ,nice neck ,doesn't sound as good as the above Fender mex player precision ,bought new in lock down ,gorgeous to play straight out of box and unlike my last P some tone difference from the knob. Always been a jazz guy but really bonding with it . Great for the money Prometeus custom bass , never had it from house ,owned for then years , due to back niggle used one weekend as it's small and light . dclaassen Posted May 8, 2022 Share Posted May 8, 2022 My Pedulla MPV-5. Neck to die for, sustain for days, consistent tone and feel across all 5 strings. The best thing, however is how it responds to different playing techniques. I find that I don’t need to tweak controls to get the sound I want.
