Which one was the hardest song you have learned and why?
BassBunny replied to fiatcoupe432's topic in General Discussion
Strangely enough, the song I found the hardest was one I could have played the easiest just for the sake of a bar gig, however, I wanted to try and nail the actual bass playing on the recording. Son of a preacher man (Dusty's version) She recorded this in Memphis and I believe the bassist was Tommy Cogbill. The recording doesn't offer a good enough mix for me to really pinpoint what he's doing and normally, I would've said that he'd played about 5,000 notes too many but it seriously works on the recording. Not even sure if I've nailed it 6 years down the line
I have the same problem with SOPM. Having worked it out it just didn't seem to work with the band and then I realised it is due to having a very busy Drummer and Guitarist in the band and there really was too much going on. Had a listen to the Joss Stone version which is much simpler and works better with the "busy bees".. -
I always use Steve Robinson, Manchester Guitar Tech, for any work I need doing. I tend to do my own setups, but Steve is excellent.
I'll defo take a look at the Yamaha. Any opinions on a farida fjb 20? Can see one for sale at £180. Nice looking bass.
Think the Farida is basically a generic bass that Dawsons seem to feature a lot. Probably out of the same factory as a number of well known brands and as such same bass but cheaper. The good thing is you can try one at Dawsons in Manchester. Downside, resale value unpredictable if you decide you don't like it. I'd get down to PMT and Dawsons and try as many basses as you can and then get a 2nd hand one of what you fancy. Another one questioning the "no Squier" comment. I have 2 custom ACG's and also a Squier VM P Bass. The Squier is astonishing value for money.

As it's a Class D amp, the options are limited as to self repair. I would get in touch with Marshall, (who now own Eden), and arrange to send it to them. all my dealings with them have been excellent. If it is still under warranty, then they will sort for free. Oh and what Jack said although Eden still have that killer tone for me.
And here she is Stuart! Still going strong... always loved the original 'David Eden' amps from way back...
I had no doubt it would still be delivering the goods. After seeing the one that was fire damaged in a studio and still worked, they are virtually indestructible. IMHO the best sounding bass amp bar none.

I put a Wilkinson Vintage bridge on mine. A lot more substantial than the BBOT that is standard. Changed pots for CTS, jack for Switchcraft and wiring to some vintage cloth covered I had around.Set of flats on and "jobs a good un". Really pleased with the outcome and find the stock pick-up to be pretty good.

WT550 is an awesome amp. So much natural tone. Plug in and "wow", no tweaking needed. Maybe a touch on the Enhance control and that's it. Only problem is it's a bit heavy due to the awesome toroidal transformer in it.

Get the existing PU rewound by someone like Aaron Armstrong. A guarenteed fit, likely to be cheaper than a new whatever and you can tell him exactly what you want it to sound like and he should be able to accomodate.

Do you mean chaging the value of the capacitor and what effect will it have? The standard cap is probaly 0.047uf a 0.1uf cap will give a more vintage roll off, whilst in the wide open postion it will be the same as any other cap.
I noticed from your sig that you have a fair collection of them! How does the B sound on the 5/6 string? That was the only thing I didn't get to test out with ead's basses as he's got 4 strings exclusively. In fairness I'd imagine it's pretty punchy and dominant going on the perfomance of the Recurve. What sort of string spacing do you have on the 5? I'm interested because the Recurve I'm playing has an asymetric profile which is really cool and kind of forces you to use good technique but at the same time feels very natural to the way your hand wants to sit on the neck. I really love the fact that you don't have to fight the bass, it just gets out of your way and lets you play it.
I've got 2 5 String ACG's Adam and live South Manchester. Welcome to try them if you want. Both 34", a Recurve and a Skelf.

Never used an GK, so can't help with that, but have used an Eden and a PF-350. I wasn't that impressed with the Ampeg but the Eden has so much natural tone when you plug it in that it really blew me away. something Eden are legendary for.

Shame you aren't nearer. I've a pair of Dalesford D's you could have in exchange. -
Someone has put a bid on it so it might go for less than £200.

Pretty sure MB amps have a protection circuit to prevent start up "pops" and sound being fed to the speakers. You can hear the relay click in after a couple of seconds on my SA450, (basically the same as an LMII but with parametric mids). I always switch mine on and leave it for a few seconds anyway before plugging in.

CTS Push Pull Pot for Series Parallel - HELP!
BassBunny replied to Chiliwailer's topic in Repairs and Technical
I've used various pots with a DPDT from here: http://www.axesrus.co.uk/Electronics-Pots-s/1951.htm Never had a prroblem with Alpha pots and Fender use them as well. -
Could this be a staright forward repair job?
BassBunny replied to aidanhallbass's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
As far as I remember, Euros are neck through, so a replacement is out of the question. They should also have full fat EMG's and tonepump. I've got a neck through Carvin where the neck had to removed and it was hacked off, a neck pocket machined in the body and a bolt on neck attached. Marlleaux did the work and it is amazing but probably cost a fortune as it involved a complete refinish.. Don't think this one is worth anything like the price G4M want. -
Drop Steve, solo4652, a message. He has a HB and is really impressed. I but an Entwistle pickup in it for him and it sounded great.

ASHDOWN MIBASS 220 POWER SECTION PROBLEM
BassBunny replied to rocker19's topic in Repairs and Technical
Not sure I totally understand how you have everything set up, but if you ended up with 2 Amps connected to 1 speaker, (or speakers), then you have most likely blown the output stage of the MiBass. I'm surprised it didn't blow both of them. The MiBass is a Class D amp but not sure what modules it uses and they aren't rep[airable. Replacement is the only solution. Most amp manufacturers use the same Class D modules so you may be able to source a replacement locally however I suspect it may be more than the amp is worth. -
That pic doesn't tell us anything except there is 1 Vol knob and 2 Tone - it doesn't actually mean that the bass is or was wired this way as those knobs don't look original to the bass (they're Strat knobs).
Whilst it says "Tone" on the control knobs, could it be Bass and Treble controls? Obviously the term "tone" is quite misleading in a passive sense as it is just a Treble Bleed control. Agree with Grangur that 2 passive controls won't work in isolation. I am sure I have a diagram somewhere that uses a single capacitor between the 2 tone controls and I think this would work. It is the same principal that Fender use on Strats. In fact here it is somewhat butchered to just show the V/T/T section. Obviously the complete diagram has a pickup switch.
