1. Or get the driver fixed at Wembley Loudspeakers. Likely to be the cheapest option and it will be the original driver.
2. Used to have one. Fabulous basses and I regret selling it but there is always something better out there isn't there....... . It was originally a passive one with V/V/T controls but I put a Bartolini pre-amp in it and it was absolutely transformed. Build quality was fantastic and it was quite light. The asymetric neck wasn't as pronounced as some I've played but there nevertheless. Customer service is second to none and any emails are answered quickly and usually by Mike Tobias himself. Anything specific you want to know, just ask.
3.
I also love Gen Benz but during my 4 year sabbatical as a drummer they went bust while I wasn't looking
Genz didn't go bust, they were bought by Fender who subsequently buried the brand. There is a suspicion that this was not before the GB technology was applied to the new Fender Rumble range, so that might be an avenue to persue. They are well reviewed and respectsd on here.
4. Any idea of the weight?
5. Might be worth dropping Mike Walsh, Zoot Bass, as he used to be the UK distributor for Tech Amp and had to stand any warranty claims. He should know a repairer.
6. Bourns do 100K pots and RS or CPC sell them. Not sure if they have a centre detent as there are a number of different ones, (33 when I did a quick search), so might be worth a trawl through the website.
7.
Which Manchester Bass Day was that! Do they still have them with people like RIchard Bona? I'd go... I think his playing unbelievable - don't care for the scat singing but it's impressive and suggests he has perfect pitch too.
There hasn't been one since 2011. Last one was at Band On The Wall with Marcus Miller. Stevie Williams, who organised the event, has been concentrating on recording with his latest band. When I last spoke to him about the event he didn't discount doing more. It was actually called Bass Day UK and the best ones, IMHO, were at the Royal Northern College of Music. I saw the Richard Bona session and it was unbelievable. Other notable players who have appeared are TM Stevens, Hadrien Feraud, Adam Nitti, Billy Sheehan, Natan East, Stu Hamm.......the list goes on. Yolanda Charles and Dave Marks were also regulars. There are quite a few YouTube videos from past Bass Days.
8.
If I'd have bothered to keep proper accounts for gigging as a second income I reckon I would have received a refund when you think of everything you can claim for on expenses, all your gear, clothing, travel, paperwork, etc. A decent accountant can more than save you his annual fee. As has been said, the taxman probably realises that already.
Correct. I do indeed have a great accountant and have received a tax rebate every year since I employed him. It's only when you see the figures at the end of the year, of what it actually costs you to gig regularly, that you realise how much it costs to persue our "hobby".
For what it's worth people have submitted proper tax returns from doing weekend warrior pub gigs, and with all the deductable stuff the taxman ended up owing them. Taxman eventually said don't bother.
Which is exactly why you should bother.
9.
How about a G&L L2500 Tribute.
The Swiss Army Knife of basses but all the ones I had were heavy. Surprised no one has mentioned the 'M' word. http://basschat.co.uk/topic/254344-the-official-maruszczyk-club/ You'll get exactly what you want from Adrian.
10.
A serious question (well not serious, but one that I genuinely don't know the answer to); Assuming/given that everything else remained the same when the change was made, can you actually hear the difference between the A/B and the D power sections? To be quite honest I don't even know if my LM3 is A/B or D.
I've not tried a Class D LM3 but haven't got on with any other Class D I have tried, and I've tried most of them out there. I just don't find they cut through as well so for me I'd rather go back to a Class A/B.
11. Back to a Class A/B power section. Mute and Headphone socket and remove the Jack output and replace with another Speakon. That would pretty much do it for me.
12. They have been doing that exact same set since the early 2000's, with very few changes, so no wonder they are so tight.
13.
Is that Omar Hakim on drums in that Chic - Jerry Barnes clip ?
Certainly is. I saw that tour and IMHO the best "post original" Chic line-up. I saw an interview with Nile Rogers when he mentioned that he didn't want Bernard Edwards replacement to try and copy Bernard as in his words, "That's Impossible".
14. Here you go. Did it myself some years back and worked a treat.
15. And someone got them for £100 just as i was having a butchers.
16. Someone is looking for one of these in the Wanted section.
17. Unless something sneaks in Tower Of Power in October. James Taylor Quartet and Soul2Soul were awesome a couple of weeks back.
18.
Would recommend the Samson Q7. Have had mine for a few years now and never missed a beat. Some could say it's a bit toppy, personally I just think they sound really clear. Have also used it to mic bass drum and guitar cabs in emergencies and sounds fine. Well built, sturdy, and cost £23 when I bought mine. Possibly slightly more expensive these days (haven't checked).
Samson get's my vote. We stopped using SM58's and switched to these as they seem to work better for us.
19.
+ 1 for Fender flats being a great intro. I'd go for the lightest gauges so you can get used to the tension, so try the 9050L. The Ernie Ball Cobalts flats are also great if you want something that kind of blends rounds with flats. I don't agree with only rounds for funk, depends on the funk and your style. Bernard Edwards had flats on his Stingray, Flea has flats on his Jazz Bass which you'll hear on a few albums.
+3
20.
Unusual serial number sticker, I would hazard a guess that, as with many of these, the original was virtually unreadable, maybe someone has just put a readable sticker on instead? Can you play fretless, of course you can and none better than a bass collection to learn with
Unusual serial number. I thought they were all 6 digits with the first 2 digits indicating the year of manufacture. My 3 all are. Also it looks like it has been modded as there are 2 additional screws on the control cavity cover.
21. I would be surprised if it is anything other than a DPST switch but If it were me i'd take a picture of the wiring of the switch. Draw a sketch of what goes where. Remove the switch and use a Multimeter to find out out what happens when the switch is in the Off and On position. Only then will you know what type of switch it is. Or contact Phil Jones Bass and ask them. Chances are they will send a replacement.
22. Looks like it's gone anyway now or been withdrawn.
23. Or a jack socket on the front?
24.
Am I missing something.? https://www.anderton...-string-natural maybe you mean the P Bass.?
This is the Thomann one: £1 dearer. Obviously it fluctuates with the vale of £ https://www.thomann.de/gb/marcus_miller_v7_vintage_swamp_ash_5_nt.htm?ref=search_rslt_Sire_384550_7
