1. They also appear to be cheaper than Thomann presumably because of the £/Euro exchange rate.
2.
Did your Sire not cone with one? I thought they all did. Where did you get it from?
+1 to that.
3.
I have some experience of playing along to backing tracks...but never to a gigging level. The singer I was working with used http://www.karaoke-version.com. He downloaded the full track and then used his DAW to filter out certain instruments. I played mainly acoustic guitar over the tracks and I have to admit...I just didn't like it. I like my music to have a bit of push and pull and a bit of spontaneity, all of which is missing when using backing tracks. Also, I'm not the greatest guitarist in the world...I'm pretty terrible., so that didn't help However...if you can handle the discipline to stick to exact tempos and structures...backing tracks are a good way to make your music sound massive! The times that we got it right it did sound awesome!
Beat me to it :-)
4. I played in a band a while back that used MiDi backing tracks and a MiDi player. The tracks were easily available to download, (for free usually), and we would "tweek" them using an editor. that said our vocalist now has a duo and uses MP3 backing tracks played on a tablet straight into the PA. He gets the tracks from KaraokeVersion http://www.karaoke-version.co.uk/ and if you select the Custom option you can remove the parts you don't want. the great thing about KV is that once you have bought the track you can download as many different versions as you like. So if, for arguments sake, you download it and find the key is wrong, download again in a different key. The quality is awesome and usually every bit as good as the original.
5. Graeme bought a set of control knobs from me. Easy transaction, no problems and would happily deal again.
6.
What I really want to find out is if I go up to a 1.0 cap, would the darkness start a bit earlier as I turn the tone down so that I can find my preferred sound without turning the tone knob practically all the way down?
That's exactly what happened when I changed the 0.47 for a 0.1. Haven't a clue regarding a 1.0uf .
7. In answer to Q1, i replaced the .47uf cap on my P Bass to a 0.1 and it made a big difference. Much more versatile in my opinion as wide open, the tone is the same on both caps. The V/T pots are 250K in both cases and possibly swapping the Tone pot and capacitor could make the difference you are looking for.

9. Hybrid semi-rigid design, so somewhere between a Hard Case and a Gig Bag. Provides awesome protection with tons of pocket space. Moveable neck brace. They make these any more and are quite highly regarded.
10. If the Hartke LH500 is on your radar then PMT are clearing Hartke gear out at stupid prices due to a change in distributor. Brand new LH500 for £199 or TX600 for £215.
11.
The problem with these is that they are advertised so cheaply that people think that they are a cheap bass. They aren't. This is alot of bass for £150. I am going to be unavailable for a few days now due to work. Will package up. But buyer will need to sort courier.
These were in the £500-800 price bracket when they came out. Quality Gotoh hardware, light as a feather, 2 Octave neck that is a joy to play. It is unbelievable that they fetch less than some Squiers, (not that I have anything against Squiers as I have one). The hardware would cost you more than £150. GLWTS but might be worth putting it on the FaceBook Bass Collection - SGC Nanyo page. There are always people looking to buy on there.
12.
CTS pot would be my choice.
+1 for CTS. Fender don't make pots, they buy them in and I would imaging a CTS is better than anything they use. If it were me I'd change the Vol Pot at the same time and also the jack to a switchcraft. Or get KiOgon to make you a new loom. You could go the whole hog and change the tone capicitor to a O.1uf to get a bit more "bass" out of it.
13.
Eh?!?!?!?! Greg, Now I'm super confused. This appears to be the ad for the Ibanez SR1300, not the MB410 cab. Maybe my browser is confused, but I'm reading the description for the Ibanez bass, in what I think is the ad for the MB cab.....
Me Too
14. I have use Wembley Loudspeakers in the past and they have been great to deal with Prompt efficient service. http://www.wembleyloudspeaker.com/
15.
He (cleverly) hasn't actually claimed it to be anything other than a Precision bass.
Maybe not, but the suggestion is their by virtue of a Fender transfer and "The serial number indicates that it is a California Series from 1997 or 1998." Can't remember an Encore being built in California.
16. Might be better posted in the Site Issues section.
17. Won't help really as Nanyo fitted Gotoh hardware on all their basses. The difference in the model numbers appear to be if it is Active/Passive and the wood used in the body.
18.
I disagree. The serial number clearly dates it to 1988. It's not an SB100.
Me too. When Nanyo was resurrected after they stopped trading the production moved to, I believe, Korea. I have one of these basses and 2 MIJ ones. The Korean one has a high mass bridge, both MIJ ones have BBOT. The control cavity cover on the Korean ones have the holes in a different place to the Jap ones as well. Also as Pete points out it is a 1988 serial number and MIJ. When I removed the neck of one of mine, it had "4 series" written in the neck pocket, so maybe that is the answer, assuming you are happy to detach the neck.
19. Great news and well done you for seeing it through.
20. Luminlay is the way to go. I've used stick on ones for ages and they don't seem to come off for me. I got mine on eBay from a seller in USA.
21. Roland DB115X Gallien Kruger do a 2x12 and a 1x15. Bergantino IP series. Bag End used to do a powered series. or get a Class D amp module and build it into your cab of choice.
22. When I had a similar issue with an amp, eBay sent me a Collect+ label and I had to repackage it and drop it off at a local Collect+ shop and that was that. Funnily enough the seller than said he hadn't received it but as I had provided the tracking info to eBay, (at their request), proving it had been delivered he had to take it up with eBay. I thought that was the standard way of dealing with ebay disputes.
23. Excellent. I love a plan when it comes together.
24. If we are only talking about small tears, I would use Evo-Stik or any similar contact adhesive. That's all spray adhesive is anyway, contact adhesive in a can. You can get clear contact adhesive which will probably do a neater job.
25. These are fabulous, (and mostly overlooked ), bridges. Direct swap with the Fender one but much more substantial and the brass saddles really look the part. GLWTS.
