I've just had a word with Drew from Manchester Bass Lounge and he is prepared to try and get some of his distributers there if this is the sort of way you want to go. So the likes of Gallien Kruger, MarkBass, Westside Distribution (Mesa Boogie, Elixir, Mono, Pedaltrain,Dunlop), Sandberg etc. Not sure how you would feel about going down that route.

I've never had a problem with the difference in volume between flat and active and passive. If you are using a fair amount of tone shaping then active to passive will be a lot different.

Excellent review and Mike does make some fantastic instruments. I am glad to see he is now concentrating on bass building again rather than spreading himself a bit thin with cabs and amps. That said I still have my Zoot cabs and plenty have been and gone, but they are with me for good.

If it's fine in passive mode then unlikely to be the pickup, more like the pre-amp and I guess to a degree you have proved that already. Only other test you could do is connect the pickup directly to your amp so you are bypassing all the internal electrics. If that is OK then it would look like a new pre-amp or just keep it passive.

Lettuce are an awesome band. Why not just become a Lettuce tribute. Job done.

Behringer bx4500h head - how do I remove the case?
BassBunny replied to stevie's topic in Repairs and Technical
Not sure brute force is the answer. These should come apart pretty easily or how would they repair them. Are the screws that attach the feet also screwing into the chassis? If all else fails drop a line to this forum as a guy there has obviously managed to take them apart. http://music-electronics-forum.com/t25581/ -
Just had a look at the back panel to see if there is a fuse and there doesn't seem to be one which is a bit strange. Removing the back panel with the Amp etc. on might reveal a fuse which could be blown. If not, I guess it's off to the repair shop.

Behringer bx4500h head - how do I remove the case?
BassBunny replied to stevie's topic in Repairs and Technical
The fan shouldn't be related to Volume. There are 2 types, those that are on all the time and those that are temperature sensitive and only come on when the temperature in the case rises above a set level. So it depends on which type it is. -

Who is the preferred shipping/courier company and why?
BassBunny replied to Mike's topic in General Discussion
UPS or DPD via Interparcel. Only ever had 1 issue and Interparcel paid out pretty quickly. No arguments or trying to wriggle out of it. Have sent tons of stuff, not just instruments, and always been a quick and efficient service. Would never touch Parcelforce as they destroyed a couple of packages sent to me by other people. -

Where does the black/white wire from the jack socket go? -
Shroeder 212pl......what's dropped off??
BassBunny replied to barneyg42's topic in Repairs and Technical
The silicon Jorg is referring to is an adhesive and will be used to stick the coil to the crossover circuit board. I don't see tthe crossover on any of the pictures. First 2 are the tweeter level control, third is the tweeter itself and the last 2 of the choke that has dropped off. The crossver is normally a small circuit board with resistors, capacitors and the coil mounted on it. It would have wires going to the tweeter, speaker, level control and input jack so tracing any of those should reveal it's location. Simpistically the way it works is that it will be designed to control which ferquencies go to either the speaker or tweeter. Lets say it is designed to "crossover" at 3.5 KHz, all frequencies, (notes), below that figure go to the speaker, all frequencies of 3.5 KHz and above go to the tweeter. -
Welcome from a fellow Manc whose "fall" into Bass is a pretty similar story to yours.

NBD - Peavey 5; Can you identify the controls for this please?

If you are going to re-wire it anyway, how about changing to Volume/Volume/Rotary Selector/Master Tone. -
These are absolutely stunning basses based on the Sandberg Basic and in essence that is exactly what it is. I had one when they first came out and covered the headstock and asked a local retailer what it was and his answer, "Sandberg". There was an excellent video on YouTube about how they came about and the build process. In essence they are to Sandberg what Skyline is to Lakland, (and Cort build Skylines as well), but for some reason Sandberg used Cort as the brand name and not Sandberg. For some reason they didn't catch on. GLWTS as someone is going to get a hell of a bass for the money.

Mine arrived this morning, which was a surprise as i hadn't had any emails at all informing me of progress. For £2, it's a bargain. Not had a chance to compare against my normal tuner.

Please help me fix a route on my bass?
BassBunny replied to DawnPatrol1990's topic in Repairs and Technical
A simple less sophisticated solution is a surface mounted plate (early Musicman Sabre style) that just sits on the back surface. No reccess needed, the plate can be large enough to hide the 'mess'.
That would be my solution. A piece of Pickguard material larger than the hole and suitable shaped and jobs a good un. Or a piece of Pickguard material to cover the hole and a cut out to accept the battery box. -
I have a 4 string Fender Hi Mass bridge and quite like them. My HB Deko 5 string needs a new bridge. I finally discovered why my bass was a Deko... For £30 the Fender Hi Mass V seems a no brainer. But the 4 string has 5 screw holes and the 5 string one has 4. The current HB bridge has 6, so in theory the 4 of the Fender should line up with the middle 4 on the HB. Based on photos I think the screw spacing is around 15-16mm...
I had a 5 string HB Deko and swapped the bridge for a Wilkinson Vintage Bridge and it was a straight swap. I've used the Wilkinson bridge on a few basses and IMHO opinion it is unbeatable in terms of value for money. Really substantial and the brass saddles give it that vintage vibe. When I sold the HB, I took it off and it's on my VM Precision 5 now.

I got one for my acoustic bass for £20, I'll have a look for the make. Just checked and it's a TGI and mine is for a 5 string acoustic. They're all over the place. This is where I got mine. http://www.alangregory.co.uk/music/TGI_Transit_Acoustic_Bass_Guitar_Case.html?gclid=COqJ96npis8CFYTGGwodfKMJBw Cranes do them. http://www.cranes.co.uk/tgi-transit-series-acoustic-bass-guitar-gigbag?utm_source=google_shopping&gclid=CNe42q3pis8CFYcK0wod8dUGrQ

I played Transferwise off against FC Exchange when putting the deposit down on a Spanish property. FC Exchange won.
I've sort of ruled out they done any damage post buy, they already own a set of the same active speakers but with 15" bass drivers. Thanks for the blue Aran link. That's were I sourced the tweeter originally, I've also noticed they do 6inch neodymium midrange drivers like the original RCFs on there,Eminence and Celestions. I wonder if any of them are compatible...?
Wembly Loudspeakers can probably repair it and then there is no problem with compatability. It it needs re-coning, that is pretty simple for them.

OLP 5 String Passive to Active...Help!
BassBunny replied to CaptainBlackarm16's topic in Repairs and Technical
Cheap alternative is a Behringer BDI21 , saves you messing about with the bass and gives you a DI solution too. It is possible to fit an Artec preamp, these are cheap, around 10 quid second hand. This will need a rout for the battery box. Search for a thread in the forum called "pimp mah olp" it will tell you what to do.
Good solution if you don't want to mess around inside the bass. Artec pre-amps are great value for money but the pots are pretty crappy and tend to get really scratchy really quickly. If it were me I would fit a Stinger pre-amp from Retrovibe. These are clones of the original and much revered Musicman 2 band eq. Cracking bit of kit. -
They certainly are UK made and are right up there with Shuker, ACG, Goodfellow etc. in quality. Mike got distracted for a while building Amps and Cabs, (Purple Chilli), but is now firmly back just building basses and won't be building any more cabs. I think there are a couple of recent builds reviewed on here. Here you go, one pretty recent one. http://basschat.co.uk/topic/281575-zoot-custom-build/page__hl__zoot
