  1. Both will do what you`re looking for nicely so as above maybe try a Mustang just to see which scale you feel more comfortable on. After many years playing reg scale I`ve switched to Mustangs and I love them.
  2. In one band we use Farm Factory in Welwyn Garden City, which has Ampeg 810s and various amps, mostly small Peaveys, easy enough to get a decent sound. In the other band we use Mill Hill Studios, rather unsurprisingly in Mill Hill, they have all sorts, Orange, Laney, Peavey, Warwick, again easy enough to get a decent sound.
  3. Through adversity (and sound-men) you shall triumph!
  4. I`ve recently bought myself one of these as a backup, not used it with band yet as have been too lazy but have been impressed with sound and amount of volume available when using it at home.
  5. I found that my 70s Precisions had a quite scoopy sound, more emphasis on lows & highs, maybe Jazz pickups follow the same pattern.
  6. Chalk it up to experience and move on @SuperSeagull, I’m sure many if not all of us have suffered similar and learned from it, I know I have.
  7. Just watching this at the moment, am not a particular fan of the band but my thoughts are that for a lot of it JH is making (having to make) a big life change and for a good chunk of it LU doesn’t seem to be able to understand it and because of that appears unwilling to offer any help to his mate. Or maybe this is my impression having been in similar situations myself (me having been in the JH position).
  8. Mexican Standard, around the £500/£600 mark I’d say
  9. I shall give it a watch later on as this thread has intrigued me. Re the nazi stuff, I don`t know enough about Metallica to comment on them specifically but I do know that actions can be taken out of context, such as: Me and my mates - all with shaved heads due to losing our hair - used to drink in a certain pub in Hemel at the start of Sat evenings, then walk to another later on. On the way was the Indian restaurant which we would be visiting after the pub. As we walked past the restaurant we would wave to the staff who would wave back. One day one of my mates offered the opinion that we should maybe step inside the restaurant and say hello rather than wave as to other passers by it could have been perceived as the skinheads were doing the nazi salute in protest against the Asians. Sometimes things ain`t what they seem.
  10. Same, I announced my leaving of my last band in Aug 2019 and didn’t leave til Jan 2020. That included gigs all over UK and a good few trips into Europe. Not fair to dump people in it that have worked hard to get where they are.
  11. I saw From The Jam last Friday in Northampton. The Skids were billed but didn’t play, was The Purple Hearts. I also thought Bruce Foxton was looking a bit old & frail, though nothing frail about his playing & singing. A lot of the songs on All Mod Cons I’d never heard live and thought they all worked really well.
  12. I started out on short scale at the age of 15, not because I was young and it was easier, that was the only bass I could afford. I had no trouble adjusting to full scale once I could play a bit. I’d say get the instrument you feel most comfortable with.
  13. Wow, nearly a grand for a 112.
  14. In my late 40s I had some late 70s Precisions that were around 10.5lbs and I was fine with them then, even though my back was iffy even then. I wouldn’t be ok with them now though.
  15. Thinking about this I wonder if something like the Elf or Gnome could be adapted for this purpose.
  16. One of our guitarists does this, pedalboard amp - which sounds excellent btw - and his various effects on one board. Makes his life a lot easier for setting up at gigs.
  17. Loving the look of the Rootmaster EVO III range.
  18. Totally get that Mick, it`s what I do for fun & to have laughs, making it the day job would have killed my enthusiasm for it.
  19. Bristol is great, I’ve gigged in a good few venues there, The Fleece, Louisiana, The Exchange, O2 Academy, and what used to be a prison (can’t remember the name tho). All were via 2 promoters, John & Ziggy. I’ve not got any more details sadly but they do punk/Oi/indie so worth doing some research.
  20. When I was in a band called The Gorgeous Heroes we used Bowies Heroes as our walk on theme. Btw, none of us were either gorgeous or heroic.
  21. I was thinking earlier that I could get a Squier CV60s Mustang, a Behringer BDI21, a set of Elixir steel rounds, a KiOgon wiring loom, a Fender gig-bag and a TC Unitune clip-on tuner for around £500 and have a decent enough set up for what’s needed to gig at venues with FOH PA and rehearse at studios with provided backline.
