  1. When I started out I took lessons to find out what the notes on the fretboard were, from there I bought the songbook to my fave album, Nevermind The Bollocks by The Sex Pistols and learned to play it. Very inspiring learning the songs of your fave band.
  2. When playing at home I always have my compressor - Zoom MS60B set to the 160 Comp - as it really evens things out and is especially good for helping me on new material. But try as much as I can I can never get one to work for me live. I suppose I need someone to show me the right settings when I’m playing then to nail them into place so I can’t ruin them and mess them up.
  3. See if you can borrow a short-scale bass to see if that helps. If movement is the issue then less movement than usual might be beneficial.
  4. I think I’d capitalise on the Fender Rumble 112 by getting another one, then add in an amp head of choice - to be safe I’d look at a 500 watt head so as to not have to push it. Plenty of choice out there, and especially on here.
  5. I think that may have been me, I liked the 1000 but the 600 just had what I felt was a bit more grunt to it.
  6. Spacewasters gig at The Trinity Bar, Harrow last night, as part of a Shake Some Acton event with four bands on the bill. Very small stage that, now we’re a 5 piece was cramped to say the least. Being so small onstage sound was poor but having heard the other bands we knew sound out front was good - kudos to the sound man, he was attentive to all the bands all night and didn’t blast the volume to max or make bass drums sound like explosions. Went very well, lots of applause and cheering, which is always nice, and was home before midnight. Forgot to mention, the rig I used was a Hartke HA3500 into a Trace Elliot 4x10, was easy to get a very decent sound from it.
  7. Aaarrrggghh, am sure it sounds great but I’m def one of the OCD Squad, I’d be terrified of it toppling over.
  8. Spacewasters at The Trinity Bar, Harrow, Sat 17 Feb
  9. In my gigging band as we’ve got 2 guitars I just set the gain on whatever amp is being used to around 7, seems to be the right spot for my JMJ Mustang, no noticeable drive but thick enough to sound decent.
  10. She’s good. He’s a good guitarist. Should sell his mic tho.
  11. Yeah, with a bit more publicity he might become famous…
  12. It happens, even in the world of the successful. A guy I know who has worked with a very well known artist for many years was simply told last year "you`re not in the band anymore" after being unable to make some dates due to scheduling. Never nice, irrespective of whatever level, and to me simply shows the real character of the person doing the dropping.
  13. I use the M80 and can put the bass in whilst the case is standing (tho do prefer to lay it down if possible) and I leave my strap attached to the bass too. I really like the M80s, I’ve had numerous different cases & gig-bags and unless a flying gig the M80 wins for me every time.
  14. Some strings just don’t work for some people, I get that. I love the playability of D’Addario Pro Steels & Ernie Ball Super Slinkys but I kill them after what seems like one song.
  15. I did up until I was in a band with a record deal and did a UK tour, I then realised music was my hobby and trying to make it my job ruined it for me.
  16. I’ve always had pretty decent service in PMT Northampton. Admittedly last time I was in there was late 2022 so not exactly recent but was good all the same.
  17. Boz Boorer All Stars in West Hampstead this Sunday. No idea what to expect, going as Boz recorded/mixed our forthcoming album so will be nice to catch up with him.
  18. I tried one briefly and was amazed at how comfortable the neck was to play.
  19. I suppose I’m quite fortunate in my gigging band, being originals material for most of our gigs there is backline provided so not much to pack away and carry which suits my current glass back situation.
  20. Same, have been back doing originals since 2011 and only had to provide a PA at one venue - which was a favour to the venue btw - otherwise PA, monitors, lights always there.
  21. Yep, only encountered it once and once was enough.
  22. A year of birth (1965) Precision wouldn’t be in that budget so I think I’d struggle to find a single instrument at that value that I wanted.
  23. Do it, they’re great basses, I’ve got the CV60s one and have been quite knocked out by how good it is to play.
  24. Yep, for me I went short scale due to back issues, if it hadn’t been for that in all likelihood I wouldn’t have even thought of short scale. I dare say that’s probably a factor with many of us.
