NBD: Fender Player ii Modified Active Precision in Metallic Forest Green
Lozz196 replied to Linus27's topic in Bass Guitars
Nice bass, really nice dark fretboard and am assuming passive is also an option. -
I used to do similar in my last band - either D for a dead stop or R for a ringing out ending. When questioned about it by a punter I said it was the key to the songs, “Cor you lot are really professional” was the response. To 5 songs in D and 5 in R 😂

Yes of course, now you mention it I’m sure I’ve read this somewhere - quite possibly on “that site across the water”.
-
Before you leave home check all of your gear to make sure it works. Pack all of your gear up so you know exactly where everything is - a bag with separate compartments is a good purchase for this. However long the journey time is to the venue allow half again (it’s no problem being early and having a coffee whilst waiting for setup time). Make sure that whoever does the set lists takes into account the person in the band with the worst eyesight - they need to be seen when in the floor in semi darkness. And probably no need to mention this, be nice, to staff/sound-person/audience.
-
Try the regular scale, on pretty much all the Mustang basses I’ve bought they’ve come with regular scale strings, including flats, on them.
-
The pickups will make a huge difference in the sound, with each bass type rather famed for how you’re describing the sound. Putting heavier gauge strings on the Spector will make it beefier but you should retain the articulation.
-
The sensible option is to check each of them out, but if I were buying untried then given the PB70 has the US spec I’d go that way.
-
I think I’d just shoot the ex-wife
-
Good to hear you’re out & about
-
And a good tip - one which we’ve had to ram home a few times - is don’t stop recording at the end of the song, keep recording to capture the applause/audience reaction.

The Short Scale Bass Appreciation Society!
Lozz196 replied to Baloney Balderdash's topic in Bass Guitars
A good carpenter could de-fugly that quite easily. -
Not got one but I’ve used a good few TC amps at gigs (maybe one of these who knows) and always found them both powerful and to have a good sound, def preferred the ones with both mids.
-
Yeah we’re all telling each other what bass/bit of gear is best, they’re telling everyone they meet they’re the best.
-
I think I’d go for the BQ250 as the eq has both low and high mids, just that bit more versatile.
-
Definitely. I’ve not played one myself but never read a bad word about them, JJ, the bassist in The Last Resort/Cockney Rejects uses these and plays some pretty big gigs with them.
-
Nice! Apparently these have a slimmer neck than a regular Precision so as a Jazz player that may suit you very well.
-
Same with the JMJ Mustang bass, made in Mexico, relatively affordable and a great bass. I didn’t buy mine because of JMJ but because of the spec, meets everything I need.
-
That’s a great idea, especially the Nirvana aspect, must be bucketloads of fun playing those songs as ska versions.
-
No, it’s fun playing those songs again, and we all have a laugh, but their workload is too much - they’ve just got Scotland Calling for next year, that amount of travelling just not for me anymore, especially given my back, I’d have to be unfolded from the car/van.

Well as per my other thread I’m now winding down gigging, but: The Spacewasters - original material, garage punk/rock I suppose. Been going for 20 years, I’ve been with them since 2021. 10 gigs a year approximately, obtained usually by people asking us to play. Used to be only London-ish gigs but now stretch to south coast, plus a few overseas. Knock Off - original material, street punk/Oi. Started 2013, I left 2019 but am back standing in for the rest of this year. They were doing 50 odd gigs a year, all over UK and Europe but have scaled back a bit to concentrate on less but better gigs, these usually obtained by being asked. Thunderkunt - instrumental classic rock covers, a non gigging band, a bunch of old mates we rehearse every few weeks and have a laugh, and play some ridiculously complicated riffs - 70s drugs must have been strong maa-an!
-
Thanks Martin, I’m staying with my non-gigging instrumental classic rock band which rehearses once every few weeks, so yes will be keeping my hand in so to speak, similarly I find it great fun. I’ve also got the rest of the year standing in for my old band but it’s only 5 or so gigs (very decent ones though).

Could it have been The Don in his Make Pino Great Again disguise?

So last night I told my band (The Spacewasters) I’m going to be leaving and they’ll need to replace me. Since I did my lower back in a couple of years ago I’ve just not enjoyed pretty much everything about gigging, aside from the actual playing, as it’s just made it difficult & painful. I see an osteopath and we’ve got it pretty much as good as it will get but the strains of gigging just too much. I did feel sad on the way home as I’ve really enjoyed being in this band, the music is great, the lads are a good laugh and the relaxed manner in which we do stuff has really suited me. Had some great experiences too - recording an album at Boz Boorers studio in Portugal the main one. Not walking away tho, until a replacement is found I’m still there, my intention is to just not be gigging next year. Now just need to write a hit single so I can retire on the publishing…..
