  1. Yes I`ve found that, volume on Channels at midday = volume on compressor at about 8 o`clock.
  2. You & me both, it’s young mans job standing like that
  3. The cat is definitely thinking “Jaco only needed 4 strings”
  4. For punk go long-scale, crotch tickling the floor.
  5. Bruce Foxton - The Jam JJ Burnel - The Stranglers Glen Matlock - The Sex Pistols Duff McKagan - Guns N Roses I of course like and admire many others but those 4 probably influenced my playing more than any others.
  6. Could be a dry joint, had similar with a Precision.
  7. I have the MS60B which is the pedal sized version, I use the 160 Comp, settings as below for evening out string volume.
  8. The ABM410 is a great cab (the EVO IV version is one of my all time faves)but it’s rather big, I find my two ABM PRO NEO 210s stacked take up less space in my spare room. I also find that they take up less space in the car as they can be put next to each other. The 410 is also quite heavy though putting a decent set of castors on solves a lot aside from stairs. Soundwise it’s a great cab that really comes into its own on big stages.
  9. I’m the same, set pickup heights based on the low G, once it stops booming I’m there, just adjust the others to fit with that.
  10. Well although we’ve all played in various formats between us we hadn’t all played together before, plus the guy on vocals had never done lead vocals before. When I said fine I meant it went very well, only a couple of minor mistakes but all being seasoned musicians we worked around those easy enough. A lot of the audience said they didn’t know we were in a band together and when we said we weren’t they said we should keep it going as it was really good. I’m hoping that happens. With a bit of work and a lot of willingness a lot can be accomplished but have to admit some songs we had thought of just didn’t gel properly so again, being seasoned musicians plus not having much time to say the least we cut them.
  11. A few weeks back I was asked, with four other mates to play some songs for a mates 40th birthday. We decided on 8 classic rock songs. We had less than 2 weeks til the gig, one rehearsal without the drummer, one with. Gig went fine. It can be done.
  12. Holidays in The Sun, Bodies, No Feelings from Never Mind The Bollocks Here’s The Sex Pistols.
  13. Imo the answer to this is it depends on easiness of the material.
  14. I used to do the same, with Rotosounds I’d get a month out of them. Switched to Warwick Red Label Steels and got 2-3 months from them. I needed the new zing for the drive that I used to work properly. New string sound was a major part of the drive really.
  15. They look great, nothing original as many others doing this, but man I wish regular scale & weight basses were an option, I’d love one of their P4 Blackheart basses (going by looks of course). Edit - They are pricey though.
  16. Agree Steve, Motorheads live version of Rosalie really shows this and how his bass sound was a crucial part of their overall sound.
  17. Yep, bigger & better sound, much more depth to it.
  18. I can’t add anything of any use other than Duff-Mungus!!
  19. I really like the gain on the Ampeg Scrambler & SCR-DI, having a blend option it keeps the solidity of the low end nicely. That said my go to for years has been some form of Tech21 pedal, find their pedals just work so well for rock/punk/metal.
  20. Good rehearsal last night with my no-singer non-gigging classic rock band. The guitarist is now taking advantage of hiring one of the rehearsal rooms 412s rather than using his own 112 and the difference is quite staggering. Far from being louder and overpowering everyone it’s actually enabled us to turn down and the sound is much better balanced. We’ve also added in Next To You by The Police, not exactly classic rock but a good song and it gives the drummer a chance to shine.
  21. Elixir coated rounds, the steels are less zingy due to being coated, the nickels are nicely warm. For reference I used to put steels on Precisions, nickels on Jazzes.
  22. Agree, I don’t know much about Anthrax but having watched a few interviews with him he seems a very decent chap
  23. I wonder how much of that is also due to the change in lifestyle. Our younglings at work consider they’ve partied like rock stars if they’ve drunk 4 glasses of wine or had 4 Bud Lites. Very different to my day where similarly to the above we were out every night, every pub was packed every night and there were always bands playing somewhere.
  24. I still think back to the 70s/80s where a musician would have one decent-ish guitar & one amp (often paid for by student grant, and said musician if no longer a student would more than likely be unemployed as unemployment was a big problem then), would be living in squalor eating virtually nothing all day (which is why they were all stick thin back then). Sure we have a cost of living problem at the moment but there were plenty of hard times years ago as well.
