It was after about 20 or 30 mins - it wasn’t helped by the fact it was snowing outside so the customers were all outside playing snowballs. New guy just wanted to close up as only people left inside was us.

When you’ve been bootlegged - at a gig Knock Off were playing someone turned up in a bootleg t-shirt of the band, a knock off of Knock Off if you like.

Hammonds in Watford was a great shop, bought my first decent bass (1987 Yamaha BB1100s) & amp (Laney Linebacker 115 combo) there, on HP.

In an old glam band I was in we played a venue where the managers had changed and the new guy, whilst honouring all existing bookings, didn’t want music so did no promotion. Not only didn’t we get asked back, he asked us if we’d accept £100 to stop playing and go away. Quite proud of that!

Yeah I’d give the steel Fat Beams a try, I find nickels on Precisions to both lack the top end I want and to be a bit too warm in the mids so always put steels on them (Elixirs in my case) for a similar bright & clear sound.

Bizarrely I found that the higher the compression was set the more volume I got, with just a smidge it completely ruined my tone and volume.

I`ve found that my US Precisions seem to put the needle into the red on the hardest notes with the Input Gain at 3 o`clock. This with the Shape enabled, and Valve Drive fully on.

Just sold James a bass. Did a meet approx half way for the handover as we`re about 150 miles apart and of course had a good long chat about basses/music/gigs etc. Great transaction all round.

Yep that`s how I ran my ABMs and my current RM500, I find it`s a much better, fuller, more dynamic tone this way.

I think it depends on both sound and the feel of the bass. Some just don`t like actives so that may be a factor. I`ve played (and owned) Squiers that when set up properly play like a dream. The sensible option of course is to simply play both on a visit to a music shop and buy the one that gave the most enjoyment when playing. Years ago I bought a Squier VM 77 Jazz bass, one on a long list of basses I really shouldn`t have sold as it was one of the best Jazzes I`ve ever played.

In my old punk covers band The Daves we played a local venue where we went down amazingly. Unfortunately a lady and her husband that we knew had come to see us, she was very drunk and started a fight with him, yelling at him very loudly in the middle of the pub. When he left she started yelling at anyone who made eye contact she would fight them too. Her broad German accent made the behaviour even more noticeable in rural Watford. We could hardly say we didn’t know her as she had a Daves tee shirt on. No matter how many times we tried to get gigs they were always fully booked…..

They’re a great band, I’m sure Charlie will be giving Keef a run for his money as he seems to be going on forever, and Alvin Gibbs on bass is simply immense.
