  1. Agree, bass far more prominent in the mix and doing a lot more as well. Def a case of band leader guitarist on bass methinks.
  2. Since I’ve gone short scale I’ve neglected my fave US Fender Precision. I’m on leave this week and have picked it up a few times, reminding myself of why it’s my fave bass so have made a pledge to myself that I shall play it every Sunday morning at least.
  3. I dare say there may be musicians out there that have bought instruments because they were within their budgets but have come to the realisation that they just don’t like them but due to funds are stuck with them.
  4. I think it is all dependent on the drummer. In one of my bands a BF210 would be fine, with more to go. In the other I’m pushing whatever 600w amp is there into an Ampeg 810 and just about get there.
  5. Looks great Dave, if only regular scale basses were an option…
  6. I used one of these amps last week, was very easy to get a very good sound from it, GLWTS.
  7. Warwick Red Label steel rounds are quite high tension. I switched to them from Rotosound and instead of getting 4 weeks out of a set of Rotos got 8 - 10 weeks from a set of Warwick’s. Cheap too, currently £12 for 45-105 at G4M.
  8. There’s a certain irony there isn’t there, and I suspect many players with nitro instruments feel the same, get some wear on this thing, makes it unique to the owner.
  9. He should turn up at the game today with his kit & ready to play, after all not like they told him he wasn’t successful.
  10. I know a fair few who’ve done similar with swapping their Les Paul Customs for Tokai Love Rocks.
  11. You can break up if you ever manage to all get together……
  12. That’s what I always tried to do.
  13. Yup, for pickups Tonerider. I’d also consider changing the electrics at the same time to a KiOgon (Basschat member) loom with Fender US specs. For one it makes the install of new pickups easier and secondly in many cases the reason Squiers sound twangier than Fenders is the pots, often 500s as oppose to the 250s that Fender use.
  14. Very good point, I love my JMJs, they’re amazingly good instruments.
  15. A few years back I played a Master Built Strat, it was hands down the best guitar I`ve ever played. I`d gone to buy an SG from a private sale and although it was a good guitar I left with it feeling decidedly disappointed after playing said Strat.
  16. They`re the ones that make the new Fender Blingycaster
  17. I’ve only played one Custom Shop instrument, a Pino Palladino Precision. It was awesome. Not sure I’d pay £5k for one (not that I could anyway) but it really was a superb instrument.
  18. C - accept that these things happen. If it could be specifically determined who damaged it then take it up with them but if not then keep schtum.
  19. I think @Baloney Balderdash has got it right, position C to approximate where a J pickup would most likely be situated.
  20. Yep, 125 watts (assuming it’s exactly half power of the 250) into a 112 is a big ask in a band scenario. That amp might be ok with two of those 112s as a temporary measure but I’d be wanting a bit more I think.
  21. Good call Dave, it’s not a race but a journey of hopefully enjoyment. For the amount of time I’ve been playing (43 yrs) I’m sure I should be better than I am but I’ve never not been able to play something that I needed to which to me is what counts.
  22. I use Wenger backpacks for this, they’re waterproof, incredibly hard wearing and have multiple sections to put things in. I am going to be selling one (poss two) soon, let me know if interested (am fully paid up on here for selling items so not dodging anything).
