    I actually had a blinding one. I’ve got a job interview tomorrow and the stress is getting to me. Partner and I decided that I needed to get out tonight so I went to the engineers arm in coalvile for OM night. @Nail Soup has visited. When I got there I explained to the hostess that I wasn’t sure if I was getting up but she gently pushed me into sweet home Alabama with her and another guitarist which went quite well, she then decided to do Dreams which went better than I thought it would as I’ve only ever played along to YouTube I was just taking bass off when the next performer came up and asked the guitarist to stay instead of using a backing track. She then asked me to Stay on and do a song I don’t even know. When id stopped hyper-ventilating the guitarist gave me the chords and said “just wing it,they are all so pissed they won’t know”. So I did … Teenage dirt bag sire v7 5 string sold to me by some serial rogue called @lee650 And a zoom b2 on ampeg patch shoes ? Brown. Next. That is all I know

    Is this a thing to do? My viola da gamba has natural gut strings but I never oiled them, so I checked it out and found it's not normal but some folk swear by it: https://www.joshlee415.com/blog/2019/7/28/oiling-gut-strings Almond oil recommended in another post.

    Since developing arthritis in my fingers I’m playing a lot less and thus am moving on much of my bass playing kit, keeping just a few essentials. Up for sale are a few of what I would say are my higher end pedals. * Peterson StroboStomp Mini - £SOLD * Darkglass X7 Ultra - £250 * Darkglass Alpha Omicron - £115 All in excellent condition (note the AO has some scuffs on the under side).     GainStage Pro didn't win me over - but it was a freebie, so hey-ho. There's a great little plugin by Hornet (It might be called AutoGain Pro) that offers the option of selecting what you actually want your output to be and it does the adjustment for you. (It's not a limiter)

    Question for the experts: I don't think I have ever got the input needle into the red, not much anyway, even with G&L which is known for powerful pickups. My volume on basses is all the way up 90% of the time, and my input is around 3:00 or a little more at times. Head sounds great, but I keep hearing about avoiding too much into the red when I can barely get into the red. I do not play really hard. Head is ungodly loud so it's not like it's struggling or anything. Any thoughts?

    Funny enough, I grabbed the Oxford Inflator and Oxford Limiter today over at Plugin Boutique in their (ongoing) sale. With my virtual cash I had available, I paid just over £30 for both. GainStage Pro was thrown in for free, but I'm not sure if it's any good. I will give it a spin though.

    I got it at GAK March 2024 as an early birthday present - I sorted it out through one of the staff there Ryan who I had a few email conversations with about it. My local luthier set it up for me with the new strings and the old ones are included. I assume it was made in late 23 or 24 as it’s a recent addition to the Hofner range. I’ve enclosed pictures of the booklet which has the matching serial number to the inside label - you can even see the name of the craftsman handwritten on the label. Hofner really know how to make something special. I’m sure Hofner would be able to find the exact date for you if needed.

    If you listen to that isolated track, there's some fills around the 3-minute mark that definitely mark the bass out as a fretless. It's not super-mwah-y, but the smooth slides give it away. Skip ahead to about 3:20, the end of that chorus has a few bits of slightly dodgy intonation! It's definitely a Stingray too - that sound is extremely distinctive. And, to my ears, the tone sounds like it's coming from a studio valve compressor - an old Neve or Drawmer or something like that (probably a Neve, Drawmer were never particularly popular in the US). Flea did quite a few guest appearances back around that time, and apparently he rarely used an amp - another track with a very similar sound was Freeway from Porno For Pyros' second album (which also featured Navarro).

    I have a Roland arriving next week, and I plan to use it for band demos as well so hopefully the extras will be useful.

    I know nothing about metal but am genuinely curious as to how a bass is designed for the genre? I have two Warwicks for reference. I guess I'm of the opinion that any bass can be used for any genre. I'm liking your Taranis btw especially with the bridge coil splitting options.

    For the third year in a row we had a Church Weekend Away at a local Guide & Scout centre. The weather was excellent and so was the food! Friday night BBQ followed by a Ceilidh. Saturday morning there was a service and Bible talk with refreshments in the middle! Saturday afternoon fun and games such as Badminton and Frisbee Golf (so much better than real golf) and more great food. It was back to church for Sunday morning before returning to the centre for a picnic and more games. It was a great way to meet and get to know new members with over 150 people attending. I was playing bass in the band and the singing was brilliant. I can recommend such an event to build church relationships.
