  1. Past hour
  2. John Giblin is probably my favourite fretless bassist and a huge influence on my playing, closely followed by Pino. Pino I feel has possibly a slightly better fretless voice but John Giblin has more melody which to me is more interesting. I also got to play a few of John's basses including this lovely fretless P-Bass.
  3. I'd recommend @tommyjamesallen in Bath. Fantastic work and really good prices. As for Bassbags, tis a shame.
  4. Deposit Paid, off to Andersons today , Just in case they manage to get these amps in as listed on time. I have to mention, this is NOT normal for me . I seldom buy new ('cos I love old valve amps ), But the confidence inspired by "Agedhorse's " helpful and informative attitude, and the design remit , that so reflects my requirements, Simply too hard to resist ! I have every confidence it will sound Fabulous. PLUS What a Looker ! Classic !
  5. The crossover might be of interest as I need to do an autopsy on my dead Headrush FR-112 and see what I can replace or salvage. Perhaps I'll do an autopsy thread for it, an anti-build thread
  6. Someone please buy this bass. You’re getting a hell of a lot for not much money.
  7. Now that's a great idea for something new at the Bass Bash "Swap Shop Table".
  8. What I love about these Mk I versions is that, at the flick of the impedance switch, you get the full 500w into 8ohms. No need for an extension cab. Plus, they sound really good. Like....*really* good.
  9. Looks like the original version which sounds a fair bit nicer than the more recent Mk3/Mk4 models!
  10. It's a shame after I committed to a rehearsal & blew out a gig on that date & the rest of the band loved my playing (as did you) that you decided to go in a different direction. I note that you appear to have struggled with particualarly bass players since.
  11. I'd say that one is bookmatched... it's just the peculiarities of how the wood has taken stain/reflects the light. But I agree, if you can get a bookmatch on a Sire or even a sub-£200 Harley Benton, PRS should be able to manage it.
  12. Oh. This is tempting.
  13. I think the Osmo Polyx products are absolutely splendid - but I have limited experience with their gloss formulas. All of that range is super-easy to apply and, in that you can always sand it off and start again if it doesn't suit, then probably worth a try. My reservations are that it depends just how hard the gloss version finally sets at. It is a modified-wax based product but, if you saw some of my satin results and tapped the finish as hard as you like with your fingernails, you generally would never think that. And bear in mind it is sold primarily for the rigours of home and commercial parquet and wooden floors. But whether the gloss version 'drags' on the fingers I really don't know. But - a small tin is cheap as chips and one of the easiest finishes to apply. It needs just a clean lint-free cloth and rubber gloves (just to keep the stickiness off your hands - trying to wash a waterproof coating off your hands is always a challenge ) and is pretty much fumeless - probably worth a try. If you do, my recommendation would be a single wipe, leave it overnight, another one, etc, and then leave it at least 2 weeks to really fully harden.
  14. Good shout about the colour options. These are essentially gateways to the Hurley and Pino sig and they look fantastic. I wonder what the neck depth (back to front) is like? I'm usually a fan of jazz width necks, but have to say the Vintera I 50s P bass I played had a lovely neck. That was 1.75 too, but fairly shallow front to back, and it felt really nice to play, I was surprised how much I liked it.
  15. Be Still My Beating Heart - Sting
  16. Dammit!!!! Oh well, lucky we've only been doing one of those songs. Message in a Bottle is the song I like to use to test drummers and guitarists, see how they approach it. Thanks for that, better getting the info now than during a gig!!
  17. Good point, it didn’t look like his regular drummer at the time either.
  18. Re-listed as something has come up (as it always does)🤣 Stingray Anniversary 1976-1996, Flamed maple top with Birdseye neck, aside form a small ding by the jack socket and light tarnishing of the tuners its in perfect condition, zero fret wear, comes with original Tweed style hard case, i've replaced the chrome knobs with black one's as i think they look better (originals of course included), i've removed the scratch plate for a better look (IMHO), something i'd have to try and find. these came with a satin finish on the neck, very smooth & playable. recent GHS Pressurewounds. i understand these were made in very limited numbers for 1 year only, a great addition for any Stingray enthusiast. reasonable offers considered, no trades please Can post
  19. Message In A Bottle is from 1979 and Born to Run from 1975!
  20. hearts alive - mastodon
  21. The clip says it was a "Lady of Soul" show, so I assume it was more about Aretha/female singers, and Stevie was a guest appearance for this song. There appear to be so many US TV shows like this where they have a house band and guest singers come on and off stage, so I doubt it would have been Stevie's band/Nate Watts.
  22. Zoom Ultra Fuzz UF-01: Had one years ago and had some nostalgic curiosity. Just as good as I remember and not super keen to get rid, but there's other things I want and with 85 DIY pedals on the shelves, I have a strict one in one out policy on branded pedals... For those who don't know, the ultra fuzz was something of a hidden gem - often very wrongly considered a fuzz factory clone, it's absolutely anything but. Can do noisy squeals but also does very rich dense heavy distortion. This one is in absolutely immaculate condition, with box. Price is £125 and includes postage with adequate insurance. Pickup available from Sheffield or Leeds also an option Zoom MS-70CDR+ Multistomp Now the other end of the Zoom spectrum, the new version of the Chorus, Delay, Reverb multistomp pedal. Just not using it enough to keep, it's genuinely amazing but I've just got my sounds settled with other pedals. Had from new and never left the desk, absolutely immaculate with box. £90 posted with adequate insurance.

  23. Been looking into arps a bit more since finding the Boss SY 200's arp fx pretty decent and usable live (e.g. on songs such as Green Day Broken Dreams). The SY 200 has relatively limited options for tweaking the sounds of the provided preset arps, albeit it gives you 18 to choose from! This does sound like another interesting use of the Boss Slicer and I feel an SL-2 ought to make its way into the Krow household in the not too distant future!
  24. No - it's the expensive ones as well! Funnily enough I bought myself a milestone guitar a few years back (PRS CU24) without really thinking much about the top, but the longer I've had it, while it plays beautifully, I'm just getting more and more triggered by this issue. The question is do I care about this enough to move on something I saved for a very long time for?
