  3. great preamp I use it a lot , good luck with the sale
  4. the 3rd party "rain" block you can add on that is cool
  5. It'd be interesting to see smaller drivers in larger cabs, ie. is the bass response due to the cab size or the driver. There's also the question of isobarik loading - I think Orange did that in some cabs.
  6. Scratchplates are evil.
  7. Thanks for the explanation @jimbobothy!
  8. Big Bottom - Spinal Tap
  9. I'm watching an auction where someone has done this on a SD curlee but in such as a way as 'dogs breakfast' makes it sound better than it is: https://reverb.com/uk/item/86586914-sd-curlee-design-series-bass-mid-70-s-standard

  11. Just checked the map and you're only 4 1/2 hours away from me. Funny how close that seems when there's a Trace Elliot at the end of the journey.
  12. Just got a Zoom MS-70CDR, old model, in the door, that I bought used, but it is in mint condition and works perfectly, cause the one I had sucked tone. I use it as kind of super 8 band fully parametric EQ, kind of a budget Source Audio EQ2, as EQ based cab sim, which I found I prefer to IR based cab sims (and yes, I realize I am missing out on the real dynamic frequency response of a real cab, that IR based cab sims are capable of, but it sounds great). Here are my settings for a faux bass cab sim, in case anyone is interested (using 4 of the 2 band "Bass Para EQ" model in series): Freq: 20Hz - Q: 2 - dB: - 20 Freq: 70Hz - Q: 4 - dB: + 4 Freq: 1kHz - Q: 4 - dB: + 3 Freq: 1.2kHz - Q: 4 - dB: +1 Freq: 3.6kHz - Q: 2 - dB: +6 Freq: 12kHz - Q: 1 - dB: - 12 Freq: 16kHz - Q: 1 - dB: - 20 Freq: 20kHz - Q: 0.5 - dB: - 20 I should probably add that this is followed by a HPF with -3dB cut off point set at 40Hz (something this pedal do not feature, though one could use the "AC Bass Pre" model on the Zoom for this function only, and just set it flat otherwise, I believe the "Depth" parameter of this model set to a value of "9" essentially is a 40Hz HPF). And this is the pedal, in case you are not familiar with it (just a random Google photo of it, not my specific unit):
  13. Clear nano tape?
  14. One of the GB Modern's I briefly owned had a similar issue with Cort's (I think they make these in house) Markbass preamp - intermittent sound with a constantly draining battery leading to low volume and distortion. No visible shorts anywhere so assumed it was the preamp at fault. It's a very good pre when you get a working one with a sensible freq point for the bass control, I was originally intending to swap it out but kept it in there.
  15. Thanks Stub, I cringe everything I hear myself playing that one sticato fill. I played it too long because I couldn't figure out how to land it back on the groove. Daryl
  16. Just for the record, Jannick Top and Philippe Bussonnet (both Magma bass players) are tuning their bass in fifth (C G D A). Jannick Top being a classical cello player he started tuning his bass in fifth in the early 1970's... Philippe Bussonnet is using the same tuning in fifth because he wanted to sound like JT.
  17. To be clear - only opened and the E string taken out to check scale length - then put back in pack and realised I had bought the wrong set - so essentially new
  18. OK. Let's speak off line and work out how to it technically as this may bore people 😊
  19. Ampeg pf800 for sale no issues I can include the rack shelf that I’ve kept it on if needed Feel free to get in touch if you want to know more
  20. I'm working through it at the moment is the 8" screwed from the inside, like in the video of you making the slightly smaller 1x12" Phil?
  21. Hi Rob I’d like to add the cutting list to the main pdf if possible?
  22. Thanks Dave, but I wish we had a more " produced" sound like your band. I like solos in jazz on the double bass. I'm not a fan of the electric bass guitar solo in rock songs. Agreed Dave, she's always going to call a bass solo in "Them Changes". I'm going to work out a solo at home and have something concrete that will work most of the time. Daryl
  23. So I managed to try one - bit underwhelmed. The body has been scaled down and this thing is *light*. Unfortunately with a full size headstock this is really neck divey sitting down without a strap (with a strap might be different). Next up, the second it was plugged in it sounded overdriven - checked amp then twiddled volume knob and it went dead. Very possibly a dead battery (which would be odd since these are new) or a dodgy pot as it came back to life when the volume pot was just on. Pots aren't level either so yeah, just a very meh experience. Neck felt nice but didn't really get a good go of due to issues above. Everything else felt a bit on the budget side. Tried pointing the problems out to the guy in the shop who couldn't have cared less, even as I tried to make light of it...Must be having a case of the Mondays.
