The all important mid frequencies on bass carry a lot of the timbre information and that would be where the “woodiness” tones live too. As low as 300hz and up to 800hz depending on the instrument and signal chain configuration. Being careful to find which regions impart boxiness or muddiness. There’s a balance to be had, because, for example a speaker cabinet may have a big dip in it’s mid range, making it sound “lower” and deeper, however it will mean there’s more to be pushed in the mids to get them back. So, I suppose I am starting from a “plug the bass straight in to a studio monitor” sort of place. Actually that’s not a bad way to learn what your bass actually sounds like before it enters the signal chain. (I play my basses through big @$$ studio monitors every day, which frankly, dialled in is an absolute joy.. all those lovely rich details coming from such a sublime instrument….) *someone get Dood his meds, he’s off on one again…

That’s a shame. I was planning to visit them next month when I’m in the area with time to kill. Very friendly on the phone and I bought a number of accessories/rosin etc from them online.

Harley Benton do a Brian May "tribute" guitar, which is supposed to be rather good, and better than the official models if you don't want to be dealing with all the fiddly phase switches, etc. They also do a bunch of "tribute" Strat-a-likes, includng a Hank Marvin one in Fiesta Red with gold hardware, and a Dave Gilmour one in black, with white pickups. They're all pretty cheap on Thomann too. I've not played those particular HB Strats, but I've played one of their regular ones and it's a bloody good guitar for £150. Basically, you could have a decent collection of tribute guitars for some of the UK's greatest guitarists for under £500!

Sorry if this is a silly question, but have you tried it with a different bass? Could also be your output jack.

For some reason, I always thought it was the great studio player, 'Larry Kimple'? He actually played with George Duke quite a bit around that period, Good luck getting to the bottom of that one...

I love blue basses so much I often wonder why anyone would want another colour. 😂😂

I had MAG and then the ABM Ashdowns for a while before going to TC partly to save on weight humping around but liked the tone and pre sets available on the RH750. I had an ABM 6x10 and i think 600 ABM head. The Ashdowns were quite popular in rehersal studios. I didnt like the BG stuff.

Why am I struggling to make bass sound good through PA?
Bill Fitzmaurice replied to mrtcat's topic in PA set up and use
Look at the frequency response chart here, which is a typical high quality bass driver. Note the midrange that peaks at 2.5kHz. https://eminence.com/products/kappalite_3012ho#frequency-response -

Hello, Very cool little Boss modeller for sale. Sounds great but I'm just not a modelling guy, I'm admitting defeat---I just don't enjoy the process, as good as the results can be. Boxed, also comes with additional Bright Onion switch. £350 delivered please. Would consider trades for bass gear - amps, basses (J flavoured), whatever... In good condition, a few scratches on the bottom as pictured. Album with lots of photos here: https://imgur.com/a/9pniK6g

Stop it, I'm skint!! Line6 has cable tone ... you can choose 6m or 12m! I can't hear any difference though. I don't even know what cable tone is supposed to sound like eek. I'm interested how the latency feels in a gig situation. NUX is a fraction more than the line6 - which is only ever a problem for me when I really go walkabout. Which i do occasionally. I still want one for when the Line 6 craps out which it has to eventually... its done hundreds of hours.
