  2. Viv Wilcock makes a short scale with a 51P pickup. I believe he calls it the 51-P!
  3. After years I finally invested in ACS moulded plugs and they are saving my ears and keeping me playing. I have mild tinnitus in my left ear and I can’t risk doing any more damage.
  4. They operate at a loss or at a tiny margin to scale, take on debt to expand, then ramp up prices as the debt (either to banks or VCs) needs to be paid back. It’s a tale as old as time. I may be wrong and they’re generating a massive profit but I reckon they’re probably heavily indebted. Guess you could check the accounts. Smart option would be to buy the buildings then lease them back to the company. So you have the loss making studio part and the profit making property bit. Maybe that’s what they’ve done. Ultimately, Pirate is like all cut price options, Ryannair, for example. You’re probably better off paying a few quid extra.
  5. That's a lovely piece of timber! And no doubt a gorgeous bass.
  6. Seems to be reports of issues on some active basses. Not sure about systems with TRS plugs.
  7. Correct. Great sounding pickup and a great playing little vintage Fender!
  8. I drilled the main board the other day and have just swaged the eyelets. There are also 3 turrets, which will support the rectifier diodes and provide connection points for the incoming AC. The red stickers cover the mounting holes where the standoffs will go, so that some eejit doesn't stick eyelets in them...

  10. Thanks for that. They look the business and he's got loads of experience of doing it. What are we looking at GBP 5-6k? Or are we into double figures?
  11. Today
  12. They really are! It's served me well but I've got a new compact set-up now. This did sell on eBay but the buyer kindly cancelled just as id finished boxing it up 🤦‍♂️
  13. https://nuxaudio.com/product/c5rc/ Sorted my need small no interference and the carry case is a power bank if your caught out
  14. There's a guy on BC, based in Holland builds @Brookes basses, they are top notch. I'd have to say that the cost of a custom build might come as a bit of a shock! I priced up with several luthiers and most were talking about having to get custom parts as very little is off the shelf.
  15. You are absolutely right that they did come originally with American made Barts. I still have them so I can include them with sale in case someone wants to put it back to more original.
  16. German flat back 3/4 double bass. Circa 1930. D neck. Recently undergone restoration. New neck, fingerboard, bass bar, bridge, end pin and all cracks repaired and secured. This bass is in excellent condition. String length 105.5 cm. Reasonable offers considered. Located in Bath
  17. No, I've been trying to find someone local to me. It may have to come to this though, I'll check him out.
  18. Still want this but wallet says no 😔
  19. Also - BC advises putting ownership into the pictures (like including a post-it note with your BC handle or something) so the pictures can't be used to rip someone off elsewhere (or on here)
  20. Have you spoken to Stan at The Amp Hospital in Guildford?
  21. I had one of these around 2005. A beauty she was. A super skinny necked tone monster. Had Barts in it as far as I remember. I’ve always regretted selling it as it was such a lovely player. Alas, I needed a Precision and so it went. If I had the cash I’d be sorely tempted. GLWTS
  22. One we used to use in Glasgow had some power extension cords with PAT test fail stickers on them, in daily use. I suppose at least they'd had the tests done.
