  2. I usually prefer a J neck and had a go on a MK1 Vintera 50s P Bass in a shop. I went in thinking I'd hate it, but was surprised by how much I liked the neck. I found it to be quite thin back to front and pretty playable. The biggest difference you'll likely notice between the Player and Vintera neck is the gloss finish and vintage (tall and narrow) frets on the Vintera. I love both of those features, but some people hate the gloss necks.
  3. I owned a US LB100 for a while and it was a quality product in every sense. The problem with G&L is that they are mainly seen as the Volvo of the bass world (not sure about in the guitar world). We expect rock solid and high quality engineered parts. But they are just not very cool. That is a shame because I think if some well known players played them that could change. I've always wanted to try a JB (the p bass with jazz pickups) and the SB1. Let's hope G&L gets snapped up and they get a bit of a makeover. I'm just thinking of their employees who are probably really worried about their future right now.
  4. Supposedly coming to Bass Direct - I usually find the tone of acoustic bass guitars way too tinny, but I think this is a very usable acoustic tone. Way way out of my budget range, but you never know.
  5. Is see some problematic claims on that site, one of which is assuming a 100dB volume level at concerts, and another is not accounting for different shapes war canals. But at least they give an indication although one Of wouldn't take too literally. Whichever plugs you get, make sure they're seated properly and avoid leakage, if that happens they're useless while you think you're protected.
  6. My neck turned up this afternoon, a whole 100 days earlier than quoted. Very happy. Thanks for the tip @rainbowreality, it's something I've been meaning to try and sort for ages.
  7. So, I need some advice. Ernie Ball want £175 for a black bridge and they want the chrome one back as well. That's a no for me. I really want to go black with this as much as I can... would it look weird if I went with black tuners, black scratchplate and knobs, black pup but had a chrome bridge? I thought £175 wouldn't be too bad if I could sell the chrome one to recoup some funds but it's too much for a like for like replacement. Is it worth me trying to spray the original bridge? Chrome sprayed - a lot of people say no... if I scuff up the chrome and it looks crap - I'm in the stink. I have had a look at other bridges but from what I have seen so far, all would leave the brass captive screws showing, it would need to be 110mm wide for it to work. Any advice fellow BC'ers??

  9. Without sounding daft.... Why didn't you put the cab on top of the combo?
  10. Twice in a month? Unheard of! The Inevitable Teaspoons will be playing next Friday night (3rd October) at Drummonds in Aberdeen.
  11. The 'OMG' setting on some of the basses has a great sound, but I agree with you that there's probably not enough players out there for the sound to become distinctive.
  12. Just bought Muzz’z Yamaha BB414 well used but in good condition and as described. Muzz helped with all my enquiries and gave me a very fair price. Really well packaged and dispatched as we had planned which helped me too. Great Basschatter so thanks again Muzz 👍👏👏👏👏. Quent
  13. Danny has been a mentor and been a wonderful friend to me. Although most of our friendship was done from a distance, his wisdom, kindness and humour were just a text away, and that felt great. His music and personality touched so many people, such diverse people…and we all loved him. What he thought me about playing the double bass (and music…and life) can be written on the back of a stamp, yet would take a lifetime to elaborate upon. I’m certainly still working on it. Such was the depth of his magnificent character. We will all miss him very much, but we can all rejoice in the fact that his tone, that unique Danny tone, will be forever.
  14. I guess the G&L basses, despite being part of Leo's legacy, are not as distinctive as a P, J or MM. Each of those, you can easily identify in a mix. G&L either do the same sorts of things or something else which sounds like a more modern bass, but not one that can be characterised so easily. Maybe that leads to a sense that they aren't as 'landmark' as the previous designs, regardless of the incremental developments like the locking bridge, MFD pickups etc.

Thanks, nice bit of history. Refund sounds good too - we used to call them 'Vintage and Dear' due to their prices, but I always got on well with the London shop folks. Cheers
  16. A shame. I had a US Fallout as my main gigging bass for a couple of years and sound wise it was up there/better than most shorties I'd played (the build was up there with my EBMM shortscale Ray). I only parted with it as I decided to move onto lighter basses for gigging and it was above 9lb.
  17. I have one of these wonderful amps in my rehearsal room, paired up with an Eden 15 cabinet..I also have one in my home., yes two!! The metro in my humble opinion is as good as any bassamp I've played through..40 years of playing or trying too..lol This is an out and steal of a price even if you have to travel a few miles to Edinburgh..Just saying..Hope this sells for you..Somebody will be really happy with this👍🤞😃

  19. Price drop to £360 with UK postage Hi Everyone, I’m selling my Sennheiser EW 100 G4 Wireless Instrument System with Ci1 (E Band) £380 - including UK postage I’ve used this once live and less than a handful of times in a pre-prod environment. Owned for a couple of years and it lived in a rack. Complete with all original parts, plus the extra rack components for mounting and a couple of extra right angle cables for the body pack. Cheers!
  20. As an addendum to this post of something that happened last week. I own a Vanderkley 2x12. For reasons which I probably can't explain, I wanted another one. Yes, I am mad. So, I find one on ebay and it gets shipped to me. The tweeter doesn't work. Turning the dial made no difference and it was off the whole time no matter what. Well, there was no marking on the packaging or any signs of damage at all. The seller drives from Folkstone to my house in South East London to pick it up. Now, he's got the issue of getting that fixed. I had a look inside and the tweeter was still connected up fine. However, this doesn't sound great does it? Surely the last customers must have warranties if things go wrong? If it's servicing we were looking for we'd all be playing Ashdown cabs and quite frankly, that's a sonic (and weight) compromise I'll never be making.
  21. A man can have other hobbies than music right 😉 .. I assemble and paint scale toy soldiers / make terrain .. Then myself and other adults in their 30- 40s have games against each other 😉 . It's quite social we also consume beverages and converse .. or not / some people take it far too seriously when they don't win , There are also big competitive tournaments .. I don't expect to win the few I enter but I have twice done so in my years of playing .. usually doubles .. as my buddy / rhythm guitarist is far better than I. It's an equally expensive hobby as music .. or drugs ... 😉

I bought the bass from Vintage & Rare. They advertised it as a ‘94. When I got the info on the bass from Musicman it stated that it began life as a fretted bass. Obviously someone had swapped the neck. I contacted V&R and they offered to take the bass back. I said I loved the bass just as it was and I was just letting them know what I had found out. They very graciously gave me a healthy amount of refund. I was a happy camper!
  24. I'll be playing my final 'From Gold To Rio' dep of 2025 with this fabulous Spandau/Duran tribute show at the Wilde Theatre at Bracknell South Hill Park Arts Centre on Sat 11th October. Gonna be a great night with some wicked basslines https://www.southhillpark.org.uk/shp-events/from-gold-to-rio-the-greatest-hits-of-spandau-ballet-duran-duran/
  25. The "what then" is not very comforting. It's one of the risks of owning such products.
