Is there a “player” or stream for the Sky Art channel?

You can download the freeview app and watch it. Now tv with the entertainment package will let you watch it on demand too.

Ive watched the first two episodes and I enjoyed the bits when they weren't focusing on Hooky and Melissa. Nothing against them but I found the small contributions from the other bass players more interesting, especially Mark King, Adam Clayton  Daryl Jones.

Watched all the second episode last night, I had never heard of the featured bass player, her style of playing did not interest me and heavily distorted bass tone does nothing for me, good to listen to the comments of the other bass players though.

Several bassists saying the only bass to have was a Precision. Funny that Mark King, Darryl Jones, Guy Pratt, and Gail Ann Dorsey weren't asked.

They didn’t say “to play”, though, did they?

I watched the lot yesterday. Really enjoyed it. There were appearances from

other bassists that weren’t listed (Adrian Younge, Mark King were just two…) Could’ve done with a couple more episodes, hopefully we’ll get another series because they really barely scratched the surface…

The 2nd episode was definitely the least interesting of the three.

Glad I'm not the only one, I had to switch channels after 20 mins, nothing of interest, move on. I think it shows how the long standing program makers have lost touch. There's Scott Devine's YT channel, which at times is great and other a bit silly, but the guy can play and I learn from him (and Ian) :) I think also media makers like Scott can create content how they want free from editorial control. YT is producing some really great presenters/tutors :) Luv it.

Only seen episodes 1 and 2 so far. I found episode 2 pretty boring with mostly "agricultural" Grade 1 level playing. Maybe that's why they shoehorned in Larry Graham and Mark King, to counter the impression it was giving that bass can be mastered in a couple of hours?

I did appreciate confirmation of my excuse for not singing anything more than oohs and aahs backing however; it's bloody difficult!

I remember the Art of Drumming series featured more than just rock drummers and was really interesting. Although I am glad it's been made, I think the heavy bias towards rock a bit unimaginative.

Two things I really like from last nights episode were for one the appreciation from bassists re those who can do lead vocals when on bass, and secondly the comments from MADM about how much she enjoyed her role in a band when she didn’t have to do any vocals and could just play bass. I really get that, just sitting back and providing the groove/foundations for the song.

But it would have then at least done what it said on the tin. Based on information gathered on this thread I won't be watching any of it. Never even heard of Peter Hook before.

I can understand that Peter Hook's playing (or that of any bass player) may not be to your taste, but to claim that you have never heard of them is just being ignorant.

I have little interest in the other two bass players in the series, but at least I know who they are and what they have played on. It may be that my lack of interest in their playing is that I don't much like (from a musical PoV) anything they have played on.

Why can you not believe that someone hasn't heard of someone? Even as a bass player I don't know the names of most groups that I didn't have much interest in, and some that I did. I have heard of him from being on here and people talking about him, but most people of most groups I don't know so it seems reasonably likely that the majority of people wouldn't have heard of the bass player in a group that had a few top ten hits and a handful of more top 40s. I mean showaddywaddy had twice as many hits (including a number one hit) and I have no idea what their bass player is. I could probably name about 4 or 5 bass players from 80s groups at most.

I appreciate bassists are deconstructing their basslines and Peter Hook may have made his own unique contribution to the music scene but honestly there’s not an awful lot to deconstruct is there.

And I don’t know what I was supposed to glean from last night’s effort.

I was hoping perhaps I could recommend this series to my non bass playing chums to show them what it’s all about. The odd glimpse of Jamerson and King helped a bit but otherwise no.

Tonight’s episode may be a bit better.

Do you know the name of every bass player in bands that you don't listen to?  What a ridiculous thing to say. I don't even know the name of every bassist in bands I DO listen to.
