Does anyone gig with a shortscale?

I will be trying out my new Sire MM U5. Just arrived plugged in .... what a growler ! J sound punchy, p bass thumping. Cant wait to gig with it to give my short fingers a break.

Almost exclusively now.  Mexican Mustang P/J and Squier Jaguar. For acoustic work, a Taylor mini-bass.

Yes i use my Alembic 30.75" short scale bass, but not often as in recent years as for most of my gigging i use a 5 string..

Not yet cause don't have a gig soon, but my U5 is now my #1. First run is a composition session with the band this upcoming weekend. I can't wait !  Short scale = A true revolution for me; and this one is awesome.

Yup.  Sold all my longscale basses a couple of years ago and moved to medium and short scale, mostly short scale.  So they are what I gig with.  Well, up until my band folded earlier in the year, anyway.  I used whatever took my fancy from Gibson SG, Gibson LP Jnr DC, Eros EB-3, Danelectro Longhorn, Fender Mustang, Harley Benton Shorty.

 

With no band currently or on the horizon these are now mostly gone - just the HB Shorty remains of my short scales.

Yes. I gig a Guild Starfire 1 and a custom made shorty in one band. I also gigged my Acinonyx quite frequently. In my other band I use a Maruszczyk Elwood medium scale and either a Greco P/J, or Hartwood Satellite medium scales. I also have a U5 fretless that I want to gig, given the chance 🤞. I only have one full scale bass these days but never gig it.

I used to gig with an Epiphone EB 3 which had awful neck dive and sounded very muddy. I've used Gretsch Electromatic which looked nice (I love the Les Paul shape) but lacked definition as well. That's moved on to a better home (my dep in the band). I have an Ibanez EHB1000s which I've used as my main bass where space is an issue, and as a back up as it's small and convenient and I can dial in a decent sound. I also gig an Ibanez AGBV200 semi acoustic.

 

Short scale basses are easier to play for me as I have guitard sized hands, but I still prefer long scale. But if I have a tricky fast piece to record, I'll usually reach for a shorty.

I certainly do gig with one, I find the string to string balance and thickness of the notes high up really useful. 

 

The Fallout is a pretty versatile bass....I don't sound that different whatever bass I play, for better or worse, after all these years.

I’ve been playing short scales for a long time.

Started off with Danelectro Longhorns, and still got one.

More recently it’s been a Squier Jaguar, Sire U5 ( which I’m going to sell on here soon, plug plug), Fender Kingman v2, as well as really short ones such as Taylor and Ibanez acoustics. I still use long scale basses but must admit I’m finding the shorties that bit more comfortable these days.

I acquired a Talman30 a couple of weeks ago and giggled with it last week.  I really enjoyed the experience, a good range of sounds off the PJ set up, the neck was nice and the short scale was fun.  Add to that a price of £212 so can't go wrong. I may be tempted to get a more expensive shorty but if I enjoy this one why bother. I was looking at a Sire MM U5 but the talman was so cheap. A lot of bass for your money.

 Because this is BC and GAS is part of its raison d’être . Wilcock and Serek* shorties lay ahead .

I have never regretted buying one.

My biggest problem with it is that I like flats and rounds on it and I can't afford to get another one so I don't have to keep changing strings!

Picked this up yesterday for the website, man it's a beauty. Wilcock basses are killer. Im starting to warm to shorty's recently after not understanding the hype for them.
