Chorus, What Songs Need It

I was watching a YT review of a Bass Fly Rig and the reviewer said he could not do without chorus. 
 

I lovr the sound of chorus but how well does it work live, and on what type of song?

Man, chorus live is like magic when it hits right. Adds that dreamy wobble and spacey vibe, especially killer on moody tunes or when you’re doing melodic fills

Everything Type O Negative ever did. I swear Pete Steel played Chorus as the instrument and just used a bass to do it.

 

It's a funny effect. Used badly and it just makes everything sound like crap Jaco or generic rock from 1985.

I use a very old and very mellow Ibanez chorus for occasional use only.

 

The sort of songs it excels on have bassline with slow, melodic sections - What is 

and what should never be is an example, it makes the long, slow slides shimmer.

I only use my Boss CEB-3 Bass chorus in conjunction with the SY-1 on my board to add a pseudo rotating speaker effect to an organ sound.

I use it on 'who knew' by pink.

I use a Marshall Regenerator on the vintage chorus setting- as others mentioned very subtly applied - just adds a dimension like a nice reverb would, but without muddying things up.

 

its not an “always on” effect though. For me.

I went through a stage of ‘always on’ but so subtle a setting, you’d only really notice on bass only moments.

It’s more to give the bass tone a 3D effect, I’ve done it in the past with subtle flanging effects, only really noticing the effect when chugging 8’s or 16’s?
I only stopped using the effect due to limited space on my pedal board but that will be resolved very soon…

I don't think there is any song my current band do where I don't have some chorus on the bass. However because I'm using a Helix Floor with several Snapshots for each song, I'm able to vary the type and intensity of the chorus from so subtle you can barely tell it's there to full-on jet flange depending on what is needed in different parts of the song.

Back in my post-punk years in the late 80s chorus was never that far away from my bass sound.

Ive always liked Chorus on bass, in the right songs, but recently I rediscovered phaser, and, oh my.........😂

Still got a Boss CB3 at home, and have had various Chorus pedals over the year, but now I use phaser in a lot of songs that I really shouldn't 😇
