That's nothing. I was here back when the only strings you could get were made of stone. Awful for slapping.

Aye, you were lucky!

Signed up here on 16th May 2007 having been on Bassworld since about 2001. Over the years I've bought and sold many basses and amps although now my gigging days are over my activity is much reduced.  Over the years I have met many fellow bassists and made many friends.

Relative newbie since 2009, my post count isn't as stratospheric as some of the titans here, but I like to think my inane blather has meant my word count's quite respectable. And some of it even makes sense...not much, I admit, but...

May 23rd 2007 joined Basschat.

Besides Bassworld, wasn't there another shortlived predecessor to Basschat?

Basstalk?

The one that was shut down briefly by the FBI

I think I was there at the time

On here it says May 18th 2007, but I'm pretty sure I was there

Apparently I joined in December 2007. Hardly seems possible. I don't think I was on Bassworld, but I used to hang out on News Groups like The Bottom Line in the late 90's/early 2000's - anyone remember them??

I remember The Bottom Line, but more because Steve Manes also ran a Triumph email list which I was on.

I've learnt a lot about the existence of many makes of bass which I never knew existed, all of which are very expensive and several of which I now own. It appears that the level of one's knowledge is in inverse proportion to the contents of one's bank account.

I was on Bass world, honestly couldn't tell you what my username was; seem to remember being quite slack in moving over to Basschat and getting a membership number of 200 or something.

It's odd how most of us older chaps were likely active on alt.bass or alt guitar.bass type newsgroups as well (back when we were all on AOL or had newsgroup access bundled in our email clients).

For some reason I can remember being member number 4. But that might just be a created memory. I do love it here though.

Well, you're #40 here, so there's a certain asymmetry to it all :D

Aha! I was thinking 4 here. But 40 it is.

Maybe I’m being blind, but there are member numbers? Joined Sept ‘08 here, was over on TB to start with and stumbled across BC somehow.

Another ex-BassWorlder here.. Though I was only on it for a year or so...

Before making the jump to Basschat on 17/05/2007.

Most expensive thing I've ever done in my life... 😭😁😂

Wouldn't have it any other way though!

22/05/2007 here

And likewise the most expensive decision I've ever made (and in part your fault Nik) I think I've spent less on houses :)

Huh? There are younger people here?

I joined in June 2007, but I was a user of Bassworld beforehand. Looking on way back machine, I remember that Warwick with the curly bubinga top that was used the add flair to the pages.

If you hover over your username (or go visit your profile), it's in the URL before your username - https://www.basschat.co.uk/profile/16-neepheid/ for example - me == #16.  You are #32.  We are old.

Thank you! All this time and I had never noticed the URL! Yup, it comes to the best of us! 👴🏻👴🏻 😂
