Basses you hardly ever see for sale

As a way too ebay influenced (as in i really shouldnt have bought this many but ebay helped..a lot ) buyer/seller/collector/playerI have owned a LOT of basses (possibly over 200).  And i have a few sellers regrets in my 45 years of bassist shenanigans.  

So occasionally i land up re-purchasing basses previously sold.. 

 

But there are a few that I just dont see ever come up for sale...rarity or just held onto by happy owners..who knows?

 

Yamaha series 1 TRB 'slapcut'.  Awesome basses, Japanese build quality.  I had the rare Jazz pickup layout version. Owned it for 14 years and rather dumbly (is that a word?)  sold it.  Never seen that model since.  Dammit.

Any of the x series of the budget Yamaha BB's.  I have owned 4 and 5 string versions, managed to snag a 424x but you hardly see them for sale, they are brilliant.

Washburn Force 42.  Headless 80s bass.  Never seen one for sale since the 80s

 

As a collector i'd likely buy any of the above without even planning to gig them (although i do take the 424x out for the odd gig or two see below..)

Any basses you hanker after yet never see on the for sale board?

JD basses. Very rare to find one for sale.

Warwick JD Thumb 5-string. I've only ever seen one and it was when my finances were at a rather low ebb so I couldn't buy it.

Status Groove Basses. Best neck profile for my hands. Massive regrets selling mine. Never see them come up. 
 

All that aside….great to see Dave Grohl playing drums again. 😂

And strangely, Sandberg Basics don't either.

Fender Jazz Bass Deluxe 24 fret. EBMM Sterling (especially in a 5).Older Ibanez BTB Premium/Prestige with factory fitted Nordstrand Big Singles pickups,not feeling the current Aguilar DCB equipped ones as much.Any Warwick Broadneck 5 strings(I have two).

USA Conklin basses... Unbelievable things, exceptionally rare on the second hand market for very good reason.

Statii in general, especially headless ones.

 

They're either that good or some may be holding onto them waiting for them to appreciate now that you can't get them.

 

 

Many years ago after watching a video of Paul Rogers around about the release of his "Now" album, I nearly ordered a Stealth 6 string fretless after listening to Jaz Lochrie's playing. In fact I named my rock band at the time "Overloaded" after the track on the album of the same name and we played both Overloaded and Soul of Love live

 

Come to think about it we also played Wishing Well and Louisiana  Blues

I recently brought a trb5 mk1 off the very nice joe geezer on here( though he was selling it on eBay. The thing is absolutely  amazing for the money I paid, and  all I can say is the legendary reputation is totally justified. It’s just under 34”scale and the B string note definition has blown me away.😊.very lightweight aswell x
