Which companies are dead to you?

Yuck, you can keep that dross.  Salt popcorn only or GTFO.

If I was only allowed one flavour of popcorn, it would be salt. However, I love the clash of salt and sweet. I'll be getting the flip out now. :D

Sweet & Salty is the best popcorn, but the butterkist microwave version is dead to me as it doesn't pop well and tastes weird

Excellent steer back on topic, cap doff to you!

Orville Redenbacher caramel popcorn. Why don't they sell that locally any more. Oh I remember, I changed countries! Still, they are dead to me now!

Ah, but is that budget popcorn?

That's not poor customer service.

That is way, waaaay beyond the merely poor.

I almost came close to buying another Dano to rob for spare parts but then I thought, “Nah, stuff ‘em”. Shame really because their guitars and basses are great.

I’ve been a Dano user since the reissues appeared in the late 90’s. There was minor support when they first came out but that had vanished by the time they first moved production to China , and the old stock quickly disappeared.
I went looking for a replacement wooden bridge , because they sound better than the adjustable ones. Eventually I found a Jerry Jones bridge from a fellow aficionado on TB.

Love their basses , but the Evets company that owns the name sucks.

The bridges with the rosewood strip / saddle are notorious for sagging. I’ve bent mine back into shape once but wouldn’t do it again, it’d probably snap.

There was an American guy who was selling solid steel repro bridges on Reverb but the price was eye watering. Don’t know if he’s still selling them?

And yes, the Evets Corp are definitely not my cup of tea.

With a name like that, I'm surprised they've not been sued by Rickenbacker.

John Hall is on the phone to his lawyers, Messrs. Suem, Grabbit & Runne, as we speak.

He was making popcorn while the rickenbackers were in the trenches singing "Die gute kamerad'!

Excellent, looks like I get all the sweet popcorn then.

I had some excellent sweet popcorn from Butterkiss this afternoon and think it’s madness that anyone would choose a different flavour.

How about big box home centers and such?

This weekend, I went into a big Home center to get some tubing that I use in my garden. I found the tubing, cut it to size and took it up to the register. The poor youngster looks at me and says how much is this? I replied that I didn’t check because traditionally they have a chart that tells them how much it is per meter. So I go back, take a picture of the price tag per meter, get back into the queue and check out. The kid charges for 1 m when I clearly had much more than that, but at that point, I didn’t think it was my problem..

It’s over to the car care place, Get the can of what I think is copper coat, then, upon reading the can, ask the guy behind the counter if this is anti-seize. He does my favorite trick for these folks and starts reading the can. I just shook my head, paid the guy and left.. this is what I get for not going to a proper auto parts store.

Is it too much to ask that people who work in these types of businesses at least know a little bit about the products they’re selling?

Which leads me back to Curry’s.

I found a NAD CD player online that I was after, only problem was it was at a Curry’s branch 50

miles away. Eventually found a number for the branch and they said they’d keep it for me so

I drove over to pick it up. It became obvious that they’d not put it aside for me, and as it was

the last one I was lucky it was still in stock, according to the assistant who checked it on

their system. Anyway told her I’d take it, and she went to get it from the shop floor, returning

5 minutes later empty handed. She then asked me what a CD player looked like! Bearing in mind

this was some years ago when CD players were not exactly rare. Anyway, I went and got it myself, and

she found the box and I paid and drove home with it.

On unpacking it I noticed it was the wrong remote control ( for a large NAD amp I think), so rang them

to arrange posting me the correct remote for my CD player, presumably in the wrong box. Said they’d send

it to me once I’d returned theirs, which I told them was not going to happen. About a week later I

received the correct unit, but looking like a 5 year old had wrapped it up! One layer of brown paper and

my address scrawled on. Amazingly it survived the journey intact.
I returned their remote a week later wrapped up in the same manner. Never been in their shops since.

Wow! I thought that Nad would be a little more upmarket for curry's . That's a surprise .

Not music related but...

I think the only company I'll never use again is a local Ford garage.

It's about 3 minutes walk from my house so it made sense when I first moved  here to take the car there for MOTs , services etc

But they always found stuff that 'needed' doing. The tracking would be off or the tyres were worn or the air conditioning fluid needed changing.

The final time I went there I got a phone call saying I 'needed' over 1k worth of stuff doing or the car would be undrivable.

I declined, took the car back and took it to another local garage where they told me they were unable to find any of the issues the first garage had warned me about.

So now I take my car to that garage, and if anyone ever asks me if I know a good mechanic I 'll warn them about the local Ford garage that tried to rip me off.

Replaced a flat tyre myself.

Took the wheel to Halfords. £20 puncture repair check, £20 off a tyre if it’s unfixable.

Called within an hour; unfixable, we can put on a £210 replacement tho.

I’m between meetings, sounds steep but running, so ok.

Check Halfords website. They don’t sell any tyres that fit for north of £170, and that’s a specialist winter tyre?!

Seek clarification later; it’s a £156 tyre. If you book to have your tyre replaced, it’s £156. However, this was an unbooked replacement following a puncture check, so that’ll be £210 minus the initial £20, thanks.

I kicked up enough of a fuss that i was “only” charged £170, but what a scam! Never again.
