And while we are on melancholia, can an artist's cover of their own song be included? I love the original, and the fact that it sounds bright and jolly despite the lyrics, but this I think is an incredible remake.

This deserves a plug for being such a fun cover! I mean bass players do wear shades indoors, don't we?! And the vacant-stare heavy metal hairdo guitarist was just perfect.

Also I think this one has turned up on the forum many times before but not on this particular thread, and it is unquestionably superior to the dreary original

I think that's so different you can't really call it better or worse, it's just a whole different thing.

I like this version and I like the original but I couldn't pick one over the other as a favourite.

I just put this album on at random and remembered that it has this cover on it:

Which obviously I’m not claiming is better than the original but actually yes, yes I am.

Anyone remember the techno disco “Show me Love” by Robin S.

Well here is a cover by the very talented Charlie Moreno (track is his band “Powafunk”)

His bass lines a super creative and quite difficult (for me!!) to replicate!

Obviously not better than the original, but a terrific arrangement with good singing and playing from all involved.

The arrangement has some nice twist and turns as the tune progresses.

Two wonderfully talented musicians performing the same song. The first amazing original penned by a phenomenally talented musician; the second a cover - not better, but also beautiful. RIP both x

I'm reading Stuart "Woody" Wood's autobiography, "Mania", at the moment, from which I learnt that the Bay City Rollers' "Bye Bye Baby" was actually a cover of that by The Four Seasons from 1965. I prefer the BCR's version.

Songbird. Christines genius wrote it and Eva made it popular. Both versions are just amazing, and Johnny Cashes Hurt is just sublime..off the scale.

Going to have to give that a careful listen to: it's not everyday that someone says the tartan crew trump the Four Seasons! 😅

I couldn't find this in the thread but for me this is a cracker of a cover. The Stones version I can take or leave but Beverley Knights take on it makes me smile. What a voice and the way it builds and keeps on building!

For me, one of the very best female singers the UK has ever produced! Love her!
