Which bass(es) do you like to gig with?

My Nate Mendel. The Quarter Pounder pickup really beefs up the bass in my Classic Rock band.

I have resisted GAS pretty well so I have only two basses and gig with both.We play mostly jazz standards with a few dance tunes and blues and old rock thrown in depending on the gig.I use my Yamaha SLB200 EUB most of the time and love it,although I know some will think I'm crazy.It is absolutely stock with no mods and I go into our Bose PA through a DI box and sounds great.My other bass is a Yamaha RBX750A(active pups)strung with flats and it also goes right into the PA.I've had the 750 for about 20 years(bought new),anybody else have one?With about 140 songs in our book these two work perfectly for me.I don't want to practise or rehearse on an instrument I don't use on a gig,too confusing for me and too expensive,and yes I have played other basses.

Only have one bass so use that! Yamaha BB424. Covers all bases well enough and aesthetically suits many styles.

I've never had two basses that were at a similar level so never struggled to pick one for a gig! Always been one bass for gigging with and a beater for emergencies.

Normally the geddy lee Jazz, or the ibanez 1605 if I want a 5 string.
I gigged my squier at the weekend as the pub was a bit dodgy!
I have also gigged the G&L L2500 when i wanted to use the bass synth (as thats the one with the pickup!).

Mostly Precision's the current go to seems to be a Candy Apple Red Precision I built and sprayed recently the finish has already started to check really nicely other than that it will be my Roadworn P or the 50's classic P on the odd occasion I will gig a replica of Andy McCluskey's Jazz Bass again one I built recently.

I have four these days - three until I get a new neck from Jon Shuker for my Fenderbird - one goes to every gig, and gets 80% of the use, and that's my double-P Shuker. The other two are the Dingwall and another Shuker, both of which are different enough to be a breath of fresh air, which is fun.

As I play in an acdc covers band, I thought I had better get a Stingray of some description. Not having the cash to get a "real" one, I bought a Sterling Sub in black and maple and after a few cosmetic changes, I have to say I am well impressed with it. A set of flatwound Chromes are winging their way from Germany and will be going on as soon as they arrive.

2 Jazz Basses get the gigs at the moment. One is a Highway 1 model modded with an Audere preamp purchased from BC. The other is an American Special which is a passive Jazz with a "greasebucket" circuit whatever that means. I bought it for the colour

I swapped the bridge and control plate for black ones, spray painted all the pickgaurd screws black, stuck on a cheeky EBMM Stingray transfer and replaced the tuners with a set of Schallers.

This year a complete change - sunburst Squier VM Mustang into a TCE BG250-208.

Explanation - now gig more with a Jazz quintet. I could mention getting older.

Sort of agree, in that I tend to make sure I do the rehearsal before a gig/recording with the bass I intend to use, but probably for superstitious/creature of habit/routine reasons rather than anything else. But it changes for every gig, I agree with BRX in that live, they all sound like basses. The FOH sound tends to be out of my control anyway, so I might as well pick the bass which makes me smile the most, or which one matches my shirt or one I haven't had an outing with for a while.

Usa ernie ball mm sterling, i do believe it to be the one ..... I have others but this just brings so much ease it in playabilty it makes all others just seem cumbersome .... Honestly, its effortless! And sounds frickin great.

Got to be one of the most overlooked basses out there, if you ever get the chance i urge you to spend 5 minutes with one!

Agreed, sweet! I had the chance to buy the exact same bass, MIJ in Lake Placid blue.

I waited a day and it was gone.
