Stand for bass, any suggestions?

I have always simply leant my bass against my speakers between sets, etc, but these days usually DI into the PA so don't have a handy speaker to lean it on. There have also been a few occasions on a crowded stage where my bass has been knocked over, no damage so far but it is only a matter of time before something serious happens.

I would like to buy a stand, can anyone recommend one which is sturdy enough for bass and won't damage my cellulose finished Jazz bass?

Hercules. I've used them for years. You lower your bass into the spring-loaded clip and it closes around the neck.

You just beat me to it !!! :)

I have also used one for years.

Same here, used one for a good few years now at home and for gigs.

They are robust, well made and easy to use.

Not sure whether the foam would affect the cellulose finish. Almost certainly not for the short duration that it is in use at a gig but might be worth checking with the manufacturer if you are looking at long term use.

Gets my vote too. It's the .best stand I have ever had.

I recently bought a Hercules Ez-pack. Probably not quite as sturdy as its bigger brothers, but it's very compact - fits in my gig back easily. Easily holds my P bass, though my J needs a little more care, due to the offset shape.

100% Hercules. The clip-in headstock ones are wonderful. Best I've ever used.
yes so wonderful that they occasionally pop put when they shouldnt

recently our guitarers lovely 70s USA strat almost took a nose dive to the floor as a result of said clip randomly disengaging itself

they are good stands, very sturdy and well made but dont rely on the headstock clip as 100% infallible (98% maybe) :)

This one's good too for use in the house anyway. Great value, seems well built and sturdy.

^ One of these.^ The Hercules headstock-clamp stands are good (I have one at home) and they are perfect for medium-to-large venues, but their footprint is too big for smaller pub and club-type gigs and everyone trips over the legs, which though widely-splayed for stability do tend to get in the bloody way. The drummer won't like it as of course he will need to take over the whole stage area when setting up.

The other good thing about the cheap Thomann stand is that it's very quick and easy to fold up and carry, whereas the Hercules types need more faff and don't fold down small enough to be convenient. In my humble opinion, of course.

I did try this one as well from Thomann https://www.thomann...._55_genesis.htm and it was way too small and flimsy to support a bass guitar. I wouldn't leave it unattended, which defeats the object. It would have been hilarious if I hadn't had to send the damn thing back for a refund.

If portability needs to be considered , i'd suggest either

https://www.hwaudio.co.uk/Product/Ultralite-Tanglewood-Guitar-Stand-UBTG1-p428622?gclid=CLfZnOTwtsUCFQn3wgodpRoANA

or this http://www.gak.co.uk/en/ultimate-gs55-compact-folding-guitar-stand/70544

If your travelling DI only to gigs surely you want a more portable offering than a full sized stand.

Thanks for the suggestions, portability isn't a major factor, but small footprint on stage is. The main reason I am usually going DI is to avoid the need to have an amp and cab taking up stage space (my lovely AMB500/Barefaced Super Twin haven't been used yet this year). The stage legend is looking good based on its size.

One thing to consider, Dave, is you have an asymmetric bottom. Or, rather, your Jazz bass does. So I guess you need one that dangles from the neck, rather than being supported from the bottom. It is possible to jiggle about a Jazz so it works on one of the bottom supported basses, but it isn't very stable.

Small compact and does the trick: http://www.herculess...rs/GS402BB.html
Only thing is the bass leans back quite a bit so with a bass on doesn't save much room but does when it's empty.

Had one but didn't like it, as my bass wasn't perpendicular enough, fussy git that I am.
