Doddy Posted February 28, 2012 Share Posted February 28, 2012 I've tried a lot of strings over the years (Fender,Ernie Ball,Rotosound,Elixir,D'addario,DR,Hartke,GHS and others I can't think of right now),but I'm now using Elites Stadium Series on all my main basses . I really like the feel and sound of them,and I find that they last well too. I prefer stainless steel strings to nickel and I really don't like coated strings. TheGreek Posted February 28, 2012 Share Posted February 28, 2012 I prefer a light guage string - normally 40-90 but 35s if I can get them...not sure if this makes any difference to longevity..I've used everything - DR LLRs, Rotosounds, Trace Elliotts (surprisingly good for the price) and Alice strings (hex-core wound, made in China, come in different colours - also surprisingly good). Like Lozz I'm also not a lover of new strings - too tinny until they bed in - normally a couple of weeks for me. I haven't used EB since the 80s after buying a set which I thought were really poor after getting rave reviews about them.. Not convinced that paying extra gets you more for your money.. I've stuck with D'Addarrio XL's over the last 3 years though. They're not expensive and sound good. Several people have told me that D'Addario make Fender strings anyway. Some I actively don't like (Rotosound Stainless, Warwick Reds), some I don't mind (EB Slinkys, Fender Nickels), and some I really like - DR Sunbeams when I'm flush, D'Addarios when I'm not.
