I've played with drummers like that. They didn't get asked back.
so which one on that list does a warwick thumb sound like?
A Jazz bass with a knackered neck pickup! Edit: to insert smiley.

Gibson EBO basses were popular in the 70s and had a very particular sound. He manages to make it work but personally I think it's a pretty horrible sound.......as bass sounds go. But it's definitely a 'sound'. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fpc1EtEODbk

Band leader: I want a songlist of 200 songs...
gjones replied to solo4652's topic in General Discussion
I remember depping for some friends of mine and being told They had a list of 70 songs which they circulated around the audience and let the audience members pick the tunes. Oh......and I had to learn them, at the 5 hr band rehearsal, in the afternoon before the gig. Amazingly, with the help of notes, I managed to learn about 30 of them. Then drove 50 miles to the gig. Opened my case and realised I'd left all the notes in the rehearsal room (oops!). I managed to get through the gig with the guitarist shouting the chord changes in my ear all night. -
Neck 'hump'. Whassat, you've got a hump. In your neck?!?
gjones replied to paul_5's topic in Repairs and Technical
Just like the title suggests. The ageing neck on my bitsa P has developed a rather worrying 'hump' just before the headstock (behind the 2nd/3rd fret). I'm guessing it's probably down to the truss rod being wound up tighter than an NHS worker's pay packet (but that's another, very disappointing story) but without this much tension on the neck it's like a bow and arrow. It seems the wood at the bump has developed a rather worrying crack too - too deep to be just the laquer. Is it time for a new neck? I've kept this one going for a couple of decades, but I'm just too broke to buy anything right now. Any suggestions on how to get another couple of months out of it?
There's a cheap neck going here on basschat http://basschat.co.u..._1#entry2216968 -
This is a California series bass http://www.ebay.co.u...=p2047675.l2557 made in USA and Mexico. Serial numbers all started AMX. The writing at the top of the headstock I think says 'American Traditional'. I've heard of them but don't know much about them. Edit : here we go http://www.sputnikmu...ad.php?t=553918 looks like it's an early equivalent of a Highway 1.

Yes pickups seem the same size (as did Mex Jazzes before 2000) and it has access to the trussrod at the headstock not the body like a USA one. The California series (which were made around 1997) did have access to the trussrod via the headstock but they had 'California Series' written on the headstock (this one doesn't).

Of course then I tried to actually pick it up and gave myself a hernia.

I played my bass through one at a studio I recorded in recently. Definitely the dogs bollocks!

I played at this place a couple of years ago http://www.scotsman....t-pub-1-1200639 And recently I played at this place (which interestingly has the worlds tiniest stage and a toilet called 'The Tardis'). http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1029938/Man-cleared-IRA-killing-71-witnesses-saw-nothing.html I don't want to play either of them again please. -
Just fitted my new wiring harness (Vol, Blend, Tone,) to my Jazz bass. Took 10 mins, it works a treat and sounds great. This is the second harness I've had from John and both were top quality and hassle free. Just like John. Heartily recommended.

The punters can't tell the difference. I have a drummer friend who was paid to turn up at a gig and mime to backing tracks (good work if you can get it). Nobody in the audience noticed and the manager of the venue, who'd specifically asked for a live band, didn't twig to the fact that the (supposedly) live band was miming.

If you expect them all to be sh*te. They'll all be fantastic!

Warning.... Kappalite 3015 NOT designed for Bass!
I think that must have been the post i read!
This one probably http://basschat.co.uk/topic/190368-barefaced-compact-vs-b-stock-speaker-in-dodgy-ashdown-combo/page__p__1850862__hl__kappa%2015__fromsearch__1#entry1850862 And by the way my Kappa is still going strong. Frankly I think you've been unlucky. I think that the majority of people out there in basschat land, who have replaced the speakers in their cabs, have had no trouble whatsoever. Possibly because (purely by accident) their cabs matched the required parameters of the speakers they bought. -
Might work but looks like a great way to bugger up your fret board? or am I wrong?
Mark Kings fretboard must be totally knackered within a week if that's the case. No your fret board will be fine. He only pulled at the strings for 15 secs. They're designed to take a beating.

I voted for Lowdown's composition. It had a very melancholy feel with a touch of the middle east about it. I also liked Skol303's composition for the same reason. All the others were excellent, in their own right, but didn't capture the atmosphere of the picture as much as Lowdown's and Skol303's.

Or an option to have a different number of results per page, like ebay does.
Hi Yesterday i started new topic ' Made in Japan' badged jazz bass copy in order to identify a jazz bass copy I bought recently from a pawnshop. They were imported by a music shop in Edinburgh, called Grants, from Japan back in the late 70's early 80's. Here's some photos of one for sale on preloved. I've got a tribal planet gigbag. It's the best I've owned so far and I got it secondhand with a bass I bought on Basschat. I've had it a couple of years now and it's still going strong. I carry my MiBass in the main big pocket and leads and pedals tuners in the other two.

I like the letter but after listening to the album again thought it was pretty bass light. All I can really hear is bass drum where the bass guitar should be.
-
If it's a bog standard neck and you have a low action, then it will often shift slightly with a change in temperature and humidity and it's probably easier to figure out how to alter the truss rod yourself (handy if it happens at a gig). If it's a later Fender model neck, with graphite rods, then it shouldn't shift at all once the action is set. In which case it's best to take it back to The Gallery to find out if there's a problem with it.

Anyone got either of these Squier's? What are they like?
gjones replied to TomWIC's topic in Bass Guitars
The silver series Squiers are made in Japan. They're excellent quality, they're made of basswood and have great sounding pickups. The necks on the Precisions are slightly narrower at the nut than normal Precisions i.e. 40mm rather than 44mm. £150 is a good price and I'm sure you'd be very happy with your purchase if you bought it. I owned a Silver series Jazz bass and loved it. I don't know much about the Korean ones.
