Warning.... Kappalite 3015 NOT designed for Bass!
I think that must have been the post i read!
This one probably http://basschat.co.uk/topic/190368-barefaced-compact-vs-b-stock-speaker-in-dodgy-ashdown-combo/page__p__1850862__hl__kappa%2015__fromsearch__1#entry1850862 And by the way my Kappa is still going strong. Frankly I think you've been unlucky. I think that the majority of people out there in basschat land, who have replaced the speakers in their cabs, have had no trouble whatsoever. Possibly because (purely by accident) their cabs matched the required parameters of the speakers they bought. -
Might work but looks like a great way to bugger up your fret board? or am I wrong?
Mark Kings fretboard must be totally knackered within a week if that's the case. No your fret board will be fine. He only pulled at the strings for 15 secs. They're designed to take a beating.

I voted for Lowdown's composition. It had a very melancholy feel with a touch of the middle east about it. I also liked Skol303's composition for the same reason. All the others were excellent, in their own right, but didn't capture the atmosphere of the picture as much as Lowdown's and Skol303's.

Or an option to have a different number of results per page, like ebay does.

They were imported by a music shop in Edinburgh, called Grants, from Japan back in the late 70's early 80's. Here's some photos of one for sale on preloved. I've got a tribal planet gigbag. It's the best I've owned so far and I got it secondhand with a bass I bought on Basschat. I've had it a couple of years now and it's still going strong. I carry my MiBass in the main big pocket and leads and pedals tuners in the other two.

I like the letter but after listening to the album again thought it was pretty bass light. All I can really hear is bass drum where the bass guitar should be.
-
If it's a bog standard neck and you have a low action, then it will often shift slightly with a change in temperature and humidity and it's probably easier to figure out how to alter the truss rod yourself (handy if it happens at a gig). If it's a later Fender model neck, with graphite rods, then it shouldn't shift at all once the action is set. In which case it's best to take it back to The Gallery to find out if there's a problem with it.

Anyone got either of these Squier's? What are they like?
gjones replied to TomWIC's topic in Bass Guitars
The silver series Squiers are made in Japan. They're excellent quality, they're made of basswood and have great sounding pickups. The necks on the Precisions are slightly narrower at the nut than normal Precisions i.e. 40mm rather than 44mm. £150 is a good price and I'm sure you'd be very happy with your purchase if you bought it. I owned a Silver series Jazz bass and loved it. I don't know much about the Korean ones. -
Making a '78 P-Bass a little more 'sonically versatile'
I have to say that ,to be totally honest with you , although adding a preamp might help you discover one or two previously- unearthed tones out of your Precision Bass , it will still end up sounding fairly similar overall . If you have got a nice Fender bass through a Mesa Boogie rig then you should be able to get a World-class sound with that combination , but it will always have the characteristic sound of a Precision Bass , whether you add an extra preamp or not . If you are saving for a Jazz Bass then I cannot help but think you would be far better served putting your money towards that than buying more outboard gear to try and make your P Bass sound like something other than itself. The combination of your Fender and Mesa Boogie gear is potentially a match made in heaven , so maybe you would be better off keeping hold of your money and experimenting with the onboard EQ of your amp. No additional electronic gizmos will make anywhere near as much difference to your sound as changing to roundwound strings . I am a bit confused by your skin condition in so much as , so far as I know, most flatwounds are made out of nickel, so if you allergic to nickel then surely they would agitate your condition too, or is it the serrations on the roundwounds that give you problems ? Using flats on a Precision is very much in vogue at the moment, but the reason that combination went very much out of fashion for a long time in the first place is precisely because it gives a very dead sound that can lack harmonic richness and atriculation and won't cut through the mix easily . The edge that roundwounds give you can make a Precision bass really speak with a complex and authortative voice that suits most musical situations so well , especially through an amp like your Mesa. If you can find a set of roundwounds , nickel or steel or anything else for that matter( would coated sets help, I wonder?) , that don't give you an adverse reaction then it will be a much cheaper way to radically change the sound of your bass and much more likely to give you what you want in terms of transforming your sound.
Yup to all this. First change your strings to roundwounds. I can assure you you will be amazed by the difference in sound. If you want more tonal possibilities buy a GEB-7 Graphic equaliser. I have one and it's great for tweaking. There is one for sale on basschat for £40 posted http://basschat.co.u..._1#entry2218999 -
I joined 4 years ago, and 4 amps, 3 cabinets, 1 John East J-Retro and 9 basses later I'm still looking for the holy grail. I've learned a lot along the way though, and have whittled things down to just a P and a Jazz. 9 basses! How did that happen?

Get a set of Elixir (or Nexus by rotosound) coated roundwound strings. All the twang but no allergic reaction. http://www.stringsdirect.co.uk/bc/48/543/elixir-bass-guitar-strings-sets/ -
I think you can learn the skills to play a musical instrument well, if you put the hours in. But the added leap from being good to being great takes something extra, which is something you can't learn from a book, DVD or teacher.

Frankly, having had one fitted to my Jazz in the past, there's not much a Jazz with a J-Retro can't do. It can sound like a P or a Stingray if that's what you want. Or even a bog standard Jazz.....

Your projects are always fascinating. I'll be paying close attention

speaker dies on me under 12 months, any rights?
gjones replied to skidder652003's topic in General Discussion
Maybe they think you are using it in a PA rather than in a bass cab. What frequency is 'Sub Bass' ? Tell them you're not a DJ or in a reggae band. Also, the damage they describe where the cone was hitting the frame, would result in the classic farting sound. Did you hear it make any nasty noises before it gave up the ghost? -
Go for a Sterling Ray 34 or a US made S.U.B. as the latest SUBs from the far east don't sound anything like a Stingray (although seem to be nice basses in their own right). Expect to pay somewhere between £300 to £400.

Another jaw drop price : this time for a 61Jazzer

Another manky old bass. I'd much prefer a new one. -
Massive Ampeg fail! Soundgarden last night, were you there?
gjones replied to stingrayPete1977's topic in General Discussion
The ancient Peavey I was playing at a local venue went tits up the other day, forcing me to play through just the house PA. I've never had so many compliments on my bass playing from total strangers before? -
I liked the John East pre amp in my Jazz because..... No 1 - It allowed me hear, and to fine tune the bass sound, from out where the audience would be. No 2 - It had a fancy mid control, which allowed you to pick a specific mid frequency to boost. Which made the bass much more audible in the band mix. You can't do that with a passive bass.
-
The clip on tuners accuracy depends on where you clip it on the headstock. I used to clip mine on the end of my headstock and after the battery drained a bit it would have difficulty reading the string vibrations. I experimented and found that the best place to clip it, is on the F of my fender logo on my Jazz and Precision. It picks up the vibrations of the strings much better there and the battery lasts for ages.

I had the same pleasant surprise a couple of weeks ago with my Jazz through a venue monitor. I put it down to the fact that my signal was going through an expensive compressor and, because it was a wedge, was pointing right at me. Try doing the same with your amp (i.e. put it on a table or something so that it's ear height) and the sound will probably be just as good. The problem with bass amps is that, with most of them, the sound is aimed at your knees not your ears.
