This is much better. I enjoyed the sound of your last video but I felt the overdriven amp disguised the actual sound of the basses too much. On this video, I really liked the deeper muddier sounding basses as they sounded better in the context of the music you played as a backing track. I especially liked the Gibson EB-2. The others I liked were the Gibson RD, The Thunderbird and The Stagg EB-3 . I think it's worthwhile trying the same thing with a different style of music to show how basses sound better or worse depending on the style of music they are playing within. For example the Jazz Bass may have been my favorite sound if the backing track had been funkier, or the Rickenbacker if the backing was rockier. Thanks.

The only bass I've heard at a sound check and gone 'what the f*** is that!?', was a Wal MK2. It was in a grungy music pub. I had my back to the stage and was leaving the venue when I heard the bassist soundchecking and ran back to find out what he was playing. No new bass (as opposed to a collectible antique) is worth four grand though. People who own them inevitably have a bank balance that far outweighs their actual talent.

My band plays the same kind of stuff your band plays and I have been in a similar situation with our egotistical guitarist. After a particularly loud and messy sounding gig I had a chat with the drummer and persuaded him to play with canes rather than sticks. What this did was force the guitarist to play quieter or risk drowning out the drummer and losing the beat. Since your band is rockabilly/country it should add to the authenticity of the sound. If I were you I'd even go as far as getting him to play with brushes which would bring the volume right down. edit: I just realised you don't have a drummer. My advice is to get one (and get him to play with brushes).

I have in the past but be aware that at this time of year, with the extremes of temperatures, the neck can expand and contract and lead to notes choking. So the moral is.......always carry an allen key just in case you need to do adjustments, on the fly, before a gig.

I usually have mine pointing at quarter to two. But sometimes I take them off and refit them so they point to half past three (but, I'm a bit of a free spirit and that's just the way I roll).

The neck and pickups are great but the weight of that (I assume) mahogany body was too much for me. By the way I bought it in 1984 and was the second owner. I definitely watch the band if the bassist is using my gear. And I have no issue with wandering on stage and turning the amp down if they look like they're abusing it.

What I'd want in an amp is loudness (without farting out at hi volumes), portability, versatile EQ, expandability (i.e. can I add another speaker at a later date if I need more volume) and a price I can afford (there's no such thing as a cheap but good bass amp - cheap = disappointing sound and farting speakers). Personally I'd go for Ashdown as they tick all the boxes above if you want to buy new. If you want to go secondhand, all of a sudden you get into professional gear territory and you have a much wider choice of the likes of GK, Markbass, EBS etc.

I remember in the early 90's my brother in law booked The Groundhogs for a gig up in Edinburgh. Only one person turned up. The Groundhogs didn't seem to mind.

I know a lot of female bass players. They don't get positive or negative discrimination as far as their musicianship goes, by other musicians, because of their gender. It's usually people who aren't musicians who make the politically incorrect comments.
