Just made some beef jerky. Cheapy Lidl steak hammered very thin, cut into 1" wide strips, marinaded for 12hrs in a witches brew of golden syrup, soy sauce, per-peri spices and Bovril(!), and then baked on a rack in the oven for 6 hours at 75deg. Turned twice and brushed with marinade during that time. Bloody marvellous.

New ear cushions and headband fitted to my trusty Sennheiser HD280 pros... good for another 20 years now, I reckon!

Hi,
Here's what mine look like now. I bought both the ear cushions and the headband cover off fleaBay for not very much at all.
The cushions went on with a minimal amount of swearing -- after destroying the old ones to take them off, the new ones have to be stretched so that the retaining strip slips into a small gap round the outside. Easier done than explained, actually
The headband cover really is a knitted woollen thing held on with poppers... looks like something your nan might make but it's really very comfortable, especially when you're a bit short of thatch up top like I am -

When your work laptop crashes and has to be rebuilt, and you subsequently find that the cloud backup system imposed on us by the IT dept hasn't actually been working. Months of data, documents, specs etc. gone. I don't know where to even start.
-
Managed to resurrect some stuff, thankfully. Everything I've been working on for the last 2-3 weeks has gone though. Absolutely gutted. If there's one thing I absolutely hate, it's having to do something twice through no fault of my own. The company will be buying me an external drive this afternoon, whether they want to or not.

I was just listening to the Dean Martin - "That's amore" video on @SpondonBassed post and automatically went into "when your worktop laptop crashes...." when I saw this....

Spotted a really handsome P copy on my local Farcebook marketplace... nice purple finish with only a couple of minor dings, maple neck, on close viewing the action looked pretty low which was a good sign, and very cheap too... so I thought I'd get it as a possible base for modding... send a message... I missed it by 10 minutes apparently 😭

When you hear your son and his fiancée debating/arguing over whether the car they just heard was a Lamborghini Huracán or Gallardo, you know he's got a keeper

1978

TBH this is one of the most chilling photos I have ever seen. One can only guess at the sheer unadulterated panic and terror inside that cabin.

Yes. I have seen (once, and never found again - I have a professional interest) a photo of a cloudscape over an American city; with an airliner in a 90-degree bank and its lower wingtip below the silhouetted buildings. The photographer caught the airliner by accident. There is no way that aircraft was capable of recovering. So, everyone in it was about to die. It is probably from one of the crashes which exposed the existence of clear air turbulence; so maybe 1975.

Today I heard Led Zep's "No Quarter" for the first time.
The dullest, most morose waste of 7 minutes I have ever listened to. -
Another ripping gig on Saturday night. Oh how I love playing ska and reggae. It's such happy music. 🖤🤍🖤🤍🖤

In various locations across the country, railway workers are sacrificing their family Christmas time in order to perform vital upgrades to lines and infrastructure, improving efficiency and services to freight and travelling public alight. Spare a thought for these folks, up to their elbows in ballast and wiring and paperwork, as you tuck into your festive feast. I'll certainly be raising a glass to all my hardworking colleagues.👏🏻
And just in case anyone thinks I'm being sarky, no I'm 100% serious. I've done Xmas commissionings, and it's bloody hard work.

Great quote this morning from Mark Hamill:
"That debate was the worst thing I've ever seen, and I was in the Star Wars Holiday Special." -
Putting together a neo-prog covers project with my guitarist mate @Witters. I thought it'd be hard to find personnel but he already has keen interest from a drummer and a keys player. We're thinking Porcupine Tree, It Bites, Quantum Pig, Fish, Frost*, Steven Wilson, Hogarth-era Marillion... I'm quite excited by this.
-
I knew it was to good to be true. Drummer has announced that he can't rehearse the same night as everyone else, and doesn't want to do any covers but wants to do original material. None of us have ever met, never mind played together, but already he's diving straight into compositions. Surely it'd be better to do one cover to start with, to make sure we all get on and are capable? We've got to walk before we can run.

Radio 2 really is the perfect early morning listening...
...'cos if there's one thing guaranteed to get me up and at 'em, out of bed and away from the alarm, it's Zoe fecking Ball's vacuous yakking and her incessant, relentless bloody Strictly fixation.
SHUT. UP.

Thurs morning quiz is good, but I find ZB a tad overly excitable for a morning show, which is strange as I liked Chris Evans when he did the morning show and he`s no sloth in those areas. But imo Radio 2s gems are Ken Bruce & Sara Cox (and used to really enjoy the late night shows with Huey Morgan and Ana Matronic on the way home from gigs).

The Commitments on BBC2 now.

Totally worth watching just for Maria Doyle Kennedy's sultry, wonderful performance of "Never Loved A Man".

Yeah, that's just what you want at bed time isn't it... back pain that gets worse when you lie down. Great.

I have been recovering from a lower back issue and tweaked it yesterday. You have my sympathy Rich. I couldn't roll over in bed last night and was concerned I might never move again it was so bad. Luckily my back support was within reach and I managed to get it on. This at least enabled me to move again.

Wearing grey jeans and a grey polo today. I feel like John Major

Today's sudden and ludicrous earworm is... the soundtrack from Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. WTF?

Follow-up to my NSBD (New Skirting Board Day), finally got some in place. Very pleased with the design. I don't do a lot of DIY so I'm quite chuffed with this.

I fitted a laminate floor in our bedroom and replaced all the skirting at the same time, rather than going the beading route. 2nd time I've done skirting. A satisfying job if your walls are square and plumb like they were on my 1st attempt, not so much when they aren't like, my 2nd attempt in a much newer house... But decent wood filler, decorators caulk and some patience with a paintbrush covers a multitude of sins!

Car insurance renewal quote just landed.
Last year, £376.
This year, £635.
I don't bloody think so.
