1. They're usually around 85% efficient, so that's about 15 watts of power per 100 watts of output power to get rid of in the form of heat. The lower power ones can get away with convection cooling. With a fan, you can use smaller, lighter heatsinks, so shrinking the footprint of the amp.
2. Thanks, but the footprint is wrong for the pcb.
3. Hi all got one of the above in a very sorry state, needs all the jack sockets replacing. They are low-profile pcb mount, 2 with 9 pcb mounting pins, one with 5. I think i may have found something on ebay, but in Hong Kong. Anyone know of similar in the UK, my Google force is weak today! http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/391496162449?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&fromMakeTrack=true Cheers MBA
4. I use one of the inexpensive Studiospares d.I. boxes on the speaker out of my 15W Ashdown valve amp and it works a treat. It has a 3-way attenuator so you have a nice choice of levels to send to a desk or recorder. The speaker just plugs in to the through socket. I think it's good for at least 60W amps, iirc. https://www.studiospares.com/Microphones/DI-Boxes/Studiospares-Dual-Passive-DI-Box_449300.htm
5. What do you sprinkle on your cereals Jack?
6.
I left another band because said "please don't do X, it really annoys me". Singer proceeded to do X thinking it funny. I said "don't do X". Next he did it onstage where he knew I could not respond... So that was it really. We played one more gig I had booked and I left and the band never played
We all REALLY want to know what x is now!
7. Ralph Towner. Solstice.
8. It always strikes me as a particularly stupid way to ascribe pickup positions.
9. It's where I live.
10. I bought one on behalf of a friend and didn't want it give it to him! I think they're fine as they are, I always wanted to pick it up.
11. I would choose the things you clamp it with to have a very smooth surface, and be larger than the guards, as a textured surface may leave an indelible impression under heating, and an unwanted line if smaller than the guard. It sounds obvious, but one of these has happened to me I seem to remember getting a good outcome using a hairdryer with a guard still screwed to the body. This would have been on a poly finish, not nitro. Good luck!
12.
No Sharp edges, light as a feather and earthed - it passes my elfin safety requirements.
Nice one!
13. But does it go up to elf?
14. Well, not a bad evening. Was playing as a duo at a community centre all day charity jobbie, but had a tabla player on board for the first two numbers and a flute player too, which all sounded lush. Then I played a 30 odd minute funky space jam with the same guys that called me up to dep last weekend, then a quick dash from Oxford to Drayton for D-fest to do the exact same thing again in a well organized pub garden event. I found it pretty tedious, as it was a vehicle for guitar twiddlery, but at least got paid £40 for that particular 35 minutes work. Some of the audience said it was good, but I doubt I would have stayed if I were in their place...
15. This track on the album Unorthodox Behaviour has the most delightfully subtle drumming from Phil Collins.
16. James St Tavern just off the Cowley road, Oxford. Good, attentive audience, a couple of other decent acts, and we got paid. The Peavey p.a. was surprisingly good too. A nice evening all round. 3 gigs tonight... gulp!, at least it is 2 different bands in only 2 different venues.
17. I'm sure you'll all be gutted to hear I won't be able to get it together this month, gig Friday, 3 gigs Saturday then off on holiday til the closing date. "Lucky escape!" I hear you muttering amongst yourselves.....
18. Core strength exercises often help with backache. I often suffered after playing squash, and found certain ones help, and now rarely get back issues, but I do need to keep them up. Gotta be better than selling your favourite bass
19. Got a text from a certain Oxford promoter who also has a band, 6 pm Sunday asking for bass at 8.30 for a private party at a community centre. It was mainly a space-rock/funky jam for about 35 minutes, mainly in E, purely winging it. The partygoers seemed happy enough and were all up and dancing. Weird though. Quoted "Good times" in the (unplanned) bass spot which kept me happy for a while.
20. Looks ok to me.
21.
My rumble 100 just stopped working one day, the light for the drive/level knob was continually flashing but no signal coming out at all, less than a year old. Took it back and it was replaced but never got feedback as to what the fault actually was. I've only used the replacement as a bedroom practice amp at low level, I don't think the 100 is really up to serious gigging.
I played on the same bill as a guy using the 100 w one and it sounded really good. Gig- worthy, I would say for sure, though everything was going through a decent p.a. I could hear the sound from it coming off the stage.
22. There are lots of nice shots of the Epi bass in this video of him playing with Anton Barbeau. I filled his shoes with Anton earlier this year! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3iZqZg0d_Q4 edit: looks like a Dimarzio Model one in the middle position has been added.
