1. I managed to sneak a late one in last month. You might get away with it if you get something together over the weekend. I am on one strike though...
2. I'm finding it quite relaxing. I don't know much by them but find it interesting enough to stick with.
3. Or should that be spodding? Haven't spotted much interesting yet. Thom Yorke with a music stand though, surprised he didn't get bottled off
4. Heard this band on 6 music over the weekend, and just got round to checking some more tunes out in case the one I heard was a one off. It appears not, and I really like it! Maybe Tool, with the B52s singing. In Japanese? http://m.youtube.com/?reload=7&rdm=2mqqqh4xk#/watch?v=Tqpj9gmk8UI
5.
Thanks everyone. Roman from here did a great job on the track with the mix I gave him. He brought some life and air to the track and has promised to help some more in the future It's always nice to get a set of extra ears from outside the band that can give an extra opinion and thoughts especially when you are trying to do it all in house and on a budget.
Can we hear the before and after somewhere?
6. "I managed to turn my already very warm music room into a sauna recording the guitar for this." Gotta love class-A valve amps, eh?
7. I bought a U.S. Masters fretless neck for one of my Masters basses. It was the only source for those basses, as they have a simple, but unique attachment method. When it came, it was lovely, but the side dots were in the wrong place, between, not on the fret position. I pointed this out and they were very apologetic, and sent me a correctly made one (eventually, took ages!) But didn't require me to send the other back, which was nice. The bad neck now wears Luminlay side inlays in the correct position....
8. You've right, of course, but I do think the video puts across the ideas in a very understandable way. As he says, you need to start with a great sounding mix in the first place.
9. I think these had a rep for being weighty. does it have a big lump of brass in/on it somewhere?
10. In early for a change! I mixed the track and it doesn't seem as disturbing as it did on first listen. Was going to add more stuff, but decided a 12-string and screwdriver was enough. It's no meisterwerk, but it does evoke some kind of dour mood. Here you go: https://soundcloud.com/julian-moss-511168525/descent-into-entropy
11. "I went to the one in Reading a few weeks back. The chimichangas were good, but there was one of those pushy "give me money for spraying you with cologne and handing you a paper towel" guys in the bogs, which is one of those things that never fails to be detrimental to my evening out. S.P. " I take it you haven't been to Cuba? That's the bog paper they hand out!
12. Spoken like a proper old bloke!
13. A guy we did part of of a mini tour with bought a Revelation Jazzmaster thin line for a couple of hundred. Looks great, good pickups with coil tap, designed by Entwhistle. I'd probably get one if i was allowed any more guitars, so cool! https://www.vintageandmodernguitars.co.uk/product/revelation-jazzmaster-thinline-rjt60-tl-fr-fiesta-red/
14. My guitarist uses a Simon & Patrick cedar which doesn't sound bad, though it needed a good setup. The finish is very thin which gives it a nice resonance, but he's very heavy-handed and has gone right through the finish round the sound hole. Personally, I find the sound a little boxy. I also own the Ami parlour from the same stable and that's ok, but cheaper. I think for similar money, the Faith acoustics are worth a look.
15. What a strange bass sound.
16. Looking nice. I have 2 questions: Is it heavy? I know it's a short scale, but it looks quite thick. Will you have to take the strings off to change the battery?
17. The Spinning wheel in the front at Paignton has bands on a lot. Always a good atmosphere when we've played there, but we do bring a coachload of folks with us. The pub next door seems to put a lot of bands on too.
18. Last year I learned Wichita Lineman, as it's such a nice song. Tip - it has great chords, but if you want to play along to the original, tune the whole thing down a semitone. It make the chords SO much easier to play! I found out Glen Cambell tuned down, and it makes sense from a guitar player's perspective, as everything suddenly falls under the fingers. Or just sing it in the higher key.
19. I bet that HH combo weighs more than the p.a.!
20. Line arrays shouldn't be all that directional, that's the big point about them, surely? The ones in the link ^ say 120 degrees horizontal dispersion...
21. A little oil will lubricate the paper, and you can get a slightly smoother finish. It may also slow down the rusting process for the future.
22. I've been trying some things out and the most odd thing happened. I've got one quite tuneful track and two atonal ones in a different time signature. I was just reviewing what I'd got down so far, mixed up the atonal tracks, and it sounded like a descent into insanity, like a waking nightmare almost. I had to get up and walk around to shake it off. I really wasn't expecting that. May have to tone it down or sweeten it before I play it to anyone.
23. Is the steel chrome plated? 1000 wet n dry will take out fine scratches ok and leave a reasonable shine, especially if done with a little oil. You'd want to take the pickup covers off so they don't get scuffed, obv.
