Added 2nd cab and blew amp speaker fuse ?
MoonBassAlpha replied to fleabag's topic in Repairs and Technical
At least you can walk into a Maplins and get yer bits there and then. Handy on a Saturday afternoon with a gig looming large in the evening. They are the convenience store of leccy bits, of course you expect to pay a small premium! -
sticking down Tolex on a guitar hard case
MoonBassAlpha replied to MoonBassAlpha's topic in Repairs and Technical
Thanks for the advice. I tried a spray contact adhesive. That was fun, it was good in parts, but didn't really hold down the edges on Old stiff tolex. I think old school contact adhesive would probably have been a better, less messy option. I stuck the ragged edges down with superglue. It looks a right dog's dinner, but it was just an old clapped out case, it's all good experience for the next time. -
Surely it would be dodgy pots though, for it to be the same for each pickup? Which seems highly unlikely, unless an issue with one somehow has a knock on effect on another.
or the tone pot.

Did you try the touching thing I suggested earlier?
-
Have you tried plugging it in with the bell plate removed and touching the lead tip where it is plugged into the socket? That should buzz just like when you touch the lead tip when not plugged in the guitar. If it does buzz, then follow the signal wires back up the harness until you stop getting the buzz. That's about the best diagnosis you can do without any kit at all. It seems like there must be a dead short to ground somewhere, as if there is an open circuit it should hum somewhat. From the description, I'd suspect the socket or tone pot, as they are common to both pickups. Let us know what you find, any details might help us to help you. Cheers MBA

Sounds like you're not driving the input hard enough. You should be able to get the meter into the red with most basses. Is there an input pad (active/passive button)?

I'm looking to use spray impact adhesive to stick down tolex on a very tatty case, but worried about getting it applied in small areas for tears without getting it everywhere. Any advice or tips, or should I use the spreadable stuff instead like Evo-Stik or similar?

Any suggestions for a cheap, small, stupidly heavy cab
MoonBassAlpha replied to tonewheels's topic in Amps and Cabs
That's actually a great suggestion. Good thinking. -

With regard to the OPs phase 90, I can't remember the last time I heard a phaser used on bass anyway. Get rid and get something useful , I say! -

Are you sure that the truss rod doesn't just need straightening a bit? (Sorry if you've already done all that stuff!)

Band names - how did you come up with yours?
MoonBassAlpha replied to AdamWoodBass's topic in General Discussion
Did you learn da-dum tish on the drums at the same time? Charms Against the Evil Eye is a display cabinet in the Pitt-Rivers museum in Oxford, apparently. -
I think Little Mix should have won. One of them wore a beret once.
New improv track - advice needed on recording issue
MoonBassAlpha replied to AdamWoodBass's topic in Recording
That's lovely. Can't hear any bad artefacts, they must be in the same range as my hissing tinnitus! Btw a nailed on winner for the noodle bar this month -
Thanks, something to consider. Being just ply, the splinters are all in different orientation. I think you're right, I'll have to lose some of chips to get it back in to position.

I think the received wisdom on here is to plug the existing holes with cocktail sticks and superglue, cut the sticks off flush and drill the new holes where they should be, you could use the pickup cover as a drilling jig if you lined it up with the scratchplate.
