Any suggestions for a cheap, small, stupidly heavy cab
MoonBassAlpha replied to tonewheels's topic in Amps and Cabs
That's actually a great suggestion. Good thinking. -
What can't you live without...but don't really use?
MoonBassAlpha replied to Monkey Steve's topic in General Discussion
With regard to the OPs phase 90, I can't remember the last time I heard a phaser used on bass anyway. Get rid and get something useful , I say! -

Are you sure that the truss rod doesn't just need straightening a bit? (Sorry if you've already done all that stuff!)

Band names - how did you come up with yours?
MoonBassAlpha replied to AdamWoodBass's topic in General Discussion
Did you learn da-dum tish on the drums at the same time? Charms Against the Evil Eye is a display cabinet in the Pitt-Rivers museum in Oxford, apparently. -
I think Little Mix should have won. One of them wore a beret once.
Voted. seems especially competitive this month. I think the picture helped, it gives strong direction. -
I'd love to walk into a pub and see a band like this. Interesting stuff.

What's that coming over the hill, is it a monster?

New improv track - advice needed on recording issue
MoonBassAlpha replied to AdamWoodBass's topic in Recording
That's lovely. Can't hear any bad artefacts, they must be in the same range as my hissing tinnitus! Btw a nailed on winner for the noodle bar this month -
Thanks, something to consider. Being just ply, the splinters are all in different orientation. I think you're right, I'll have to lose some of chips to get it back in to position.

I think the received wisdom on here is to plug the existing holes with cocktail sticks and superglue, cut the sticks off flush and drill the new holes where they should be, you could use the pickup cover as a drilling jig if you lined it up with the scratchplate.

This is a 70's Japanese-made acoustic with a nasty ouch in the back. I'm looking to do a cheapish, quickish tidy up. My forearm doesnt fit right in the soundhole, so very tricky to push from the inside. I asked the owner and he'd be happy with me just cutting the part out and tidying the edges. Any other quick n dirty suggestions? (keep it clean please!) It looks like this one: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ANTORIA-FOLK-628-DREADNOUGHT-ACOUSTIC-GUITAR-1970s-/302286809698?nma=true&si=Qtahkv2mWuR9bt3RGpvMa3gYfNw%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557 Here's the damage:

Lovely gig in Paignton at the Spinning Wheel (376 mile round trip!) stayed nearby so could have quite a few drinks afterwards. The atmosphere was really friendly (big coach load down from Oxford) plus a private 40th party from upstairs, and a hen do later. We were one of 6 acts and I played with a drummer and guitarist for a 3 or 4 tune jam (I had about an hour's notice beforehand - cheers for that!) I got some really nice comments though: the drummer for the jam was having trouble articulating but said something like "I like playing with you, you're a, um, er, proper, er, bass player, I like your note choices", and a girl said "if I was going to play the bass, I'd like to play just like you!" Aw, shucks! Nice to get some ego stroking, my bandmates never say anything much...

Hofner violin basses are pretty light, as are the Verithin. Comes in handy playing long sets in the Star Club apparently.

April Composition Challenge - VOTING!
MoonBassAlpha replied to Skol303's topic in General Discussion
Good turnout. I'll have to set some time aside to remind myself of ones I've already heard. SoundCloud is not allowed at work -
I guess the sort of folks that read this forum would be a lot of fixer uppers, who, like me, never throw anything away. I'm looking for a single machine head for a Strat, the squareish cast ones (not Kluson vintage-style) These have 2 locating pips next to each other and removable button with straight slotted screw and non-split shaft. I realize a photo would have been more use than a description, ain't hindsight a wonderful thing? I thought ebay would be full of this sort of thing, but apparently not BTW, this isn't begging, happy to pay! Cheers MBA

If I get time tomorrow night I'll try to do something more interesting for the tune, but I doubt I'll feel like it after a late night tonight in Paignton (gig) then driving back to Oxfordshire. Thanks for the kind words, I think it's so useless I was going to take it down to stop wasting everyone's time. At least there won't be anything much like it this month. With good reason!

Interface for recording multiple channels simultaneously
MoonBassAlpha replied to dlloyd's topic in Recording
The old Zoom 1266 can record 6 channels simultaneously. You can get a good working one for about £120.
