1. Sperzels are nice tuners. Both my (headed) basses have them on, and my Eggle Guitar. I did manage to flip one of the tuners from left to right when I got a new 3+1 neck. It's a bit brutal but it does work, just! GLWTS!
2. Sounds like a baritone would do the job. Scale length shouldn't be a big deal if you're coming from bass.
3. Hi All I use the round-ish shaped Gibson plectrums (not the Standard, or Wedge shapes) and can't seem to find them anymore. Medium thickness. Any sources? or ones the same shape but in a different material that lasts a bit longer. I find I'm now very picky about the shape and gauge having always used them, but my old stash is getting low. Other shapes and thicknesses just don't do it for me. Cheers MBA
4. And there's the title for your new prog album!
5. Saw a bass cube 100 on eBay yesterday around the £100 Mark. Plenty for home and small gigs.
6. Exotic porn sites? Did you say "rash"?
7. I've missed your critiques, and haven't been doing this long enough to have had any of my efforts done. Look forward to them when you're fighting fit again. Then you could retrospectively do all mine. Chop chop!
8. Tomorrow Never Knows by some 60s band whose name eludes me for the moment.
9.
There's dreary moodiness indie rock and there's happy dance indie rock. There is a difference between Peace and Two Door Cinema Club. Don't let BBC Radio 6 (I didn't even know there was a 6) be the indicator of all things indie. Again, before labelling think try harder. Look up The Strokes, Two Door Cinema Club, The Wombats, they are all fairly non dreary.
6 doesn't set out to be an arbiter of indie music. On any given show you can hear indie, rock, jazz, hip-hop, folk, psychedelica, alt-rock, americana, prog, and some stuff that defies categorization. I've also heard the Strokes and Two Door Cinema Club!. You should give it a try one day.
10. Sorry my entry this month is so low in content (less, this time, is just less!). It won't get any votes as it isn't worth it, but at least I've started using my new kit (Zoom R24), so, hopefully, next time round there will be a bit more in it.
11. The style of music my band plays isn't what my wife listens to out of choice, so she very rarely comes to our gigs. Also, as we aren't prolific songwriters, she has heard all the tunes enough already.
12.
I am binging on Ralph Towner at the moment.
Lovely music for a Sunday
13. It really surprises me what a nasty guitar sound he has on this. I'm sure he can afford the best gear going, it's just horrid. My Godin Solidac does a better "acoustic" sound than that.
14. What are these 2 tunes, and how do they differ from the rest of the set?
15. Just made it! This comp is all about firsts for me. Some months ago it was my first "public" drumming, first song I've done for 35 odd years, first singing solo for public consumption, and now first playing with loops, although I've only had this afternoon to tinker on my new Zoom R24, and I did go to the pub at lunchtime... (hic!) The great thing about this challenge, for me, is that it makes me do stuff and learn stuff that I would normally keep putting off. https://soundcloud.com/julian-moss-511168525/levitate
16. I should have started earlier than 4.30 today. Add that to the fact I'm trying to use my R24 in anger for the first time, and trying to learn how to do loops(also a first) and do something in an unfamiliar genre, I may have bitten off more than I can chew... Needless to say, the end result will reflect the minutes I've spent on it! Time for dinner now. Will really try to get some thing up before curfew.
17. Nice! Unusual colour, and I didn't know they did a bolt on Berlin. Looks lush. Glwts!
18. Is your middle name "The" ?
19. Nah, their 210 doesn't have a tweeter
20. I can't see why a d.I box should eat batteries. There's not going to be a huge amount more in there than an on-board bass preamp. You do know it can be phantom powered from the mixer?
21. I put the Luminlay in my fretless and they work fine. I seem to have lost the blue led mini torch, but find the torch light on my phone does the same job. Failing that, the leds on a Genz-Benz Shuttle do the same.
22. Anyone thought of locking cams yet? : http://www.google.co.uk/patents/US4574678
23. Use a traditional open-style jack socket instead? It may be possible to angle the tip connection away from the PCB.
24. If it's a fine cut is it to give you the option of fitting a zero fret where the nut would normally go? Just a thought...
