1. Is there much sound difference between the 2 coils when they're that close together? did OLP just do it to maintain the look of the full-fat 'Ray?
2. https://ritter-instruments.com/R8-concept.php Some lovely ideas here, gives a really clean look from the front.
3. What are the three controls supposed to do on a single pickup? Volume, tone and blend between single and dual coil?
4. A Squier Bronco that I bought on behalf of a friend who didn't do eBay. £67. It was just so effortless to play I could barely put it down, and didn't want to pass it on to its new owner!
5. I've got a Warwick one and it's pretty heavy. The protection is good, but it has too much extra storage that I don't really need, but can't be zipped off.
6. I've never noticed any difference in sound or sustain using a shim of card, on either basses or guitars.
7. I'd try squirting contact cleaner into any gap available, including down the moving part of the switch, then working the switch a lot. The contacts have probably oxidized due to it always being in the on position. Even working it a lot without contact cleaner may well do it. Best of luck.
8. You could take the battery off and check continuity between the positive terminal and ground when the jack is plugged in. That would tell you if it's the socket that's grounding the battery.
9. Didn't Gibson lose the case against PRS over their single cut? Or was the appeal repealed?
10. Can't you get them to chip in with some shaker, Guiro or cleave action?
11. I did notice that the Les Paul wasn't mentioned in the list of designs in the quoted article. That shape must represent more of the output of copies than the rest put together by a long chalk.
12. Budget? Roland Bass Cube 30 are decent at home volume for not too much, especially 2nd hand.
13. Are they battery powered? I've recently had 2 different (non-music related) battery powered gizmos that stopped working due to small amounts of corrosion on the battery terminals.
14. If it's not getting hot after a couple of hours, maybe putting a soft pillow over it might do the trick. Obviously, I wouldn't recommend that if it were generating any noticeable heat
15. At such quiet volumes the amp should hardly be generating any heat at all. You could fit a small switch to turn the fan off for quiet practice, or fit a thermal switch to the heatsink to turn the fan on when it gets mildly warm. Alternatively, play through headphones!
16. He's the boss and can do what he likes?
17. I've just got one but not really used it yet, except for trying out the internal mics for recording drums, sounds pretty good. I've got the predecessors, MRS 1266 and 1608, and they are similar functionally and will record to CD built in. The screen on the 24 is small though, not quite as easy to see what is going on.
18. The Fishman and Aguilar pickups are both passive according to the Spector website. Incidentally, was any mention made of how well it functioned prior to purchase? Did it look like it had been fiddled with?
19. Might be more economic to get it repaired. Probably cost about half what new pickups would be, maybe less if it's just a bad solder joint where t h e coil connects to the hookup wires.
20. According to the diagram I've Googled the pickups should be connected to the pot wipers with the feed taken from the top end of the pot (the end that isn't connected to ground) If you think about it, if both wipers are connected together, when one wiper is taken to ground they both are, there's no isolation.
21. Denied!! Sorry to hear that. At what point do the signals get mixed? Could it be a phase problem? Sounds like the bass frequencies are cancelling. I wonder if flipping the soapbar polarity would be worthwhile. If your scope is dual channel you could check the phase just before the stage where they are mixed/summed.
22. Back of the net!
23. Sounds like the pot itself might be faulty.
24.
...and google just keeps on giving:
I think the Kramer headstock is absolutely fantastic, it's distinctive, well-proportioned, compact and shiny! What's not to like? Even that Fender is ok with me, it has a kind of Bauhaus functionality. If these are the worst you can come up with, you're really not trying!
